(help plz) Mat Manager, Vista64, & file permissions
#1

Hi all,

I recently downloaded and installed Mat Manager. I set it up just the way the instructions told me to, but I can't seem to get the "cache" & "netcache" folders in "paintschemes" to switch from read-only. I've looked up how to do this on the net and can't seem to find anything that helps. There are instructions out there, but like many things on the net they are written by people who think everybody already knows what they are talking about when they write instructions full of jargon. I've tried following these instructions, but can't seem to make it work (I'm sure I'm missing a step somewhere), and now I'm afraid if I do anymore tinkering I will do some serious damage to my game or system. Can anyone here please tell me, step by step, in plain English, how to switch the permissions on these folders to allow Mat Manager to do its thing? Thank you in advance.

Here is the what I use to "Take Ownership" of files and folders>

Taking ownership of a file/directory gives you direct read/write access to the file (without going through UAC)

Hi EasyRider,

I've taken ownership of the folders, and unchecked the "read-only" box a few dozen times now, but everytime I go back and look at the properties of the folder, the "read-only" box is checked again. It will let me uncheck the read-only box, but it will reset it once I close the folder's properties window.

Edit: And thanks for the link, but I'm not sure I want to mess with the system registry.

The take ownership will get you past the UAC setting your settings back to vista settings all the time.

The registry hack is so that when you right click on a file or folder there will be an added tool to use in the right click drop down menu called "Take Ownership"
right click on a file and then scroll down the drop down list to "take ownership" and click on it and you will then have total control over that file or folder and the UAC and Vista will never reset that file or folder back.

You will have control,not vista!!!

I added take ownership as the very first thing I added to my new Visa PC,I have never regretted using it!
Vista sucks/U.A.C. sucks....you want control of your PC then "Take Ownership" is the way to do it

make a restore point on your PC if your worried about installing a registry hack

I had the same problem. After a MONTH of tinkering I gave up on this and never could get it to work. However, there is another mod that works very well. Get McWolf's decal shine and also spookies default markings. I am using that and it is very good. I hope you get it working, but I never did.

Is there a way to do this same thing on XP?

I've got everything installed but the damn folder keeps reverting back to Read Only no matter what i try.
Thanks!
