[Download] One Hundred Heinkells *mission*
#1

Hi Guys,

This is a mission for Canons fantastic channel map (1940)
After tearing around the skies of Cannons map in my spitfire mk1 for a week i decided to have a go at changing sides and finding out what it might be like for one of
the ordinary Heinkell crews to fly a daylight raid over London in 1940.

This is a one hundred bomber raid with dozens of other aircraft in the air at the same time. I know that this sounds like a FRPS nightmare but i,ve designed it as (and i'll say it out loud)
A TOTAL COCKPIT EXPERIENCE all visual effects are designed to be viewed from within the cockpit and gun positions of your Heinkell and i've had to pull alot of little tricks to prevent
FRPS loss and stuttering, once you have witnessed a visual effect from your cockpit it will destroy itself, redundant aircraft will slip from view and quietly crash, ships at sea will collide and sink,
all airbourne aircraft will be flying from the start of the mission to prevent stuttering when they spawn, the RAF use hit and run tactics then fly away and crash. The returning bomber formation
disperses over the channel to seperate airfields but your group is the only one that lands to prevent your pc trying to land dozens of aircraft at the same time.

If you stay within the confines of your Heinkell then this works really well and takes you on a roller-coaster of a ride with plenty of action and plenty to see, viewed from any other perspective
and you'll see planes behaving erracticly as they slink off to crash.

So witness what it might have been like for an ordinary Heinkell pilot on a hundred bomber raid, its quite a thrill ride, can you hold your course and hold your nerve as fly into hell.
I'm running this on a duel core, 9800gtx with 4GB ram with no frps loss or stuttering, hope it runs as smooth for you.

This the first mission i've ever made so all constructive critiscm (good or bad) is welcome as it can only help me with future missions.

ALL YOU NEED IS CANONS CHANNEL MAPS AND ALL THEY REQUIRE

Just finished playing it. It worked really well overall, though there was some stutter during one of the first fighter attacks. My system is pretty average though, so its to be expected.

My favorite part was the balloon barrage, it was a great touch.

Good work and congrats!

Firstly I couldn't run the mission as it gave an error that a flight was duplicated.... so i opened it in FMB and re-saved...(this causes it to re-check and list flights in order).

The mission was good for a first effort. You made the common mistake of leaving a/c at their default speeds....which the FMB sets as 300 kph....this is too fast for bombers.... they need to be set at 200 kph..... don't forget that an average cruising speed is not applicable when trying to keep in formation. If we turn off the autopilot then we immediately start to fall behind the AI leader and in order to try and stay in formation must use full throttle which will soon cause overheating.

The large amounts of flak over UK seemed to me to be a bit like the B-17 raids over Germany later in the war.... I don't think that during the Battle of Britain they had as many AA guns as all that.

I made the mistake of sneaking a look from external view down to see the effect of the bombing on the London docks.... and my game froze... Sad

Cy6, i'm glad you enjoyed it and that it didn't cause you to many problems.

Fabianfred, thanks for the advice on bomber speeds i hadn't taken that into consideration, i'll remember that next time and found your post on the subject very usefull, i wish i had found it beforehand it would have helped immensly,

I have a copy of a map from september 1940 obtained from the Imperial war museum depicting 34 flak positions along the route i chose for my bombers, there may have been more. I couldn't include all of these or else none of the bombers would have reached London and as the map isn't 1.1 scale they would have been to close together and to intense so i didn't try to reproduce acurate AA positions but just put a few in at random, i'm still waiting for information on the positions in and around London but i do know that there were 24 positions along the sussex coast between Eastbourne and Newhaven, these included the ones at Fort Newhaven

You left the confines of your bomber! .....not surprised it froze!!!
