Newbie Question - White Scarves And Wheelspats
#1

Like so many enthusiasts, I recently discovered AAA and am amazed and delighted at the explosion of mod activity for the IL-2 series of flight sims. I am slowly learning how to model aircraft in 3dsMax 9, and have a question about importing new 3D models into the game. Reading the other threads gave me the impression that the importation process with Dr. Jones importer can be unpredictable - have the bugs been ironed out?

Being a fan of the Golden Age of aviation, I have been constructing 3D models of the aircraft used in China 1937-1941. I love the open cockpits and tear-drop fairings of the mi-1930s, and the Sino-Japanese war employed dozens of late biplanes and early monoplanes - sample shots are shown below. These are all WIPs and are NOT ready for release anytime soon. I would like to correspond with other modders to learn how to introduce new aircraft into IL-2 1946.

Like you I'm a lover of the era, and will like to see this planes into the game. There are a couple of planes that we really need, the Fiat Cr.32 and Heinkel.51 ( for SCW, and not present on your pics ), the Nakajima Ki.10 Perry and the Dw.510 both present on your pics. Hope the modders can give you a hand.

The Chinese air force also used the CR.32, so it's on my list of things to do some day. Even though they were not used in China, I am also considering the He.51 and He.70 - they absolutely reek of character!

Another model that I started recently is shown below - the Curtiss Hawk III. Still lots of work to be done, but it is starting to look respectable.

Such a pleasant change from the spotty albino kids and their never ending stream of wetdream-waffe fantasy types. Good luck, And congratulations on having an interest in real aircraft.

amazing work!

To get these planes IL2 "friendly" you should first tell us how many polygons these planes have.

I have question for you, first of all can i say the planes look amazing but i want to refer to the vehicles, did you make those as well?
i like the look of those and its something else we could do with, we need all sorts of airfield vehicles suck as fire trucks, recovery trucks
etc, the list goes on! they would be a welcome addition as well and the ones you have in there with your planes look fantastic.

Two vehicles are mapped and textured - the Woody and fuel truck - the other vehicles could be finished fairly quickly. I also have mapped and textured a small collection of ground objects, that are based on photos of 1930s airfields. It would not take too much effort to complete these, but I would prefer to then pass them on to someone who is experienced at introducing new ground objects into the game. This kind of work is extremely time consuming, and - like most people - I never seem to have enough time for my hobby.
