Turning on ground
#1

Greetings.

AFter flying in CFS2 for years where turn on the ground was very easy as it had differential braking, I find it very difficult to turn while taxiing in IL2 46. I have to make huge wide turns to get on the runway and am not always successful. Is this some setting? Somethign in the .conf file that needs changed? I see some videos where the aircaft are turning on a dime. How do you do this?

i.e. turning left I push the joystick all the way left and use full rudder. What else is there to do? Single engine aircraft.

just use rudder and little bit of brakes and you'll turn easily. Check your rudder configuration.

No need to move joystick. Apply left or right rudder and press brake - that's Il2's differential braking.

G'Day Wilkes,

Matey just make sure your tail wheel isn't engaged/locked into place. Every aircraft in IL2 46 can turn within its own shadow.

I can always turn 360' on the same blade of grass in my Bf 110 and every other aircraft in this game that I have flown, so to me it has to be your tail wheel? all you do is hold down the brake button, increase throttle and turn in what ever direction you want, once your pointing to where you want to go then ease off the brakes, once I'm on the runway and ready to go I engage my tail wheel to lock my direction in.

Kind Regards

Venatore.

Also IL2 is a bit odd in the way that ground movement is modelled because it's completely inaccurate. It's more like moving on floats, your plane won't follow your frontwheel when turning etc so if you are going to drive it like a car then it will fail Tongue

It seems to work fine offline. I toggled the tailwheel lock on and off and it turns no problem. Online I've had some difficulty. I'm wondering if the server I fly on locks the tailwheel by default as I haven't messed with the tailwheel while online. Will have to do some more investigating while online.

Thanks for the replies.
