New sound card problems
#1

I just got a cheap xtreme sound 5.1 16 bit sound card and every thing works great in windows and in world of warcraft. All my media players work great and sound great now also. So, heres the problem. IL-2 is having some kind of conflict. All my interior sounds are real low and all exterior sounds are through the roof. I mean I can't even here my own engine over my wingmans. I got to fly like 10 miles away to hear my own mg's. In the qmb, with noone around everything seems normal. But when I fire my guns I can hear the bullet impact 10,000 yards away.
So, I thought me adding sf6.0 was creating conflict, no. I thought it was UI1.1, not it either. I erased All IL-2 files, rebooted, reinstalled a clean IL-2 fresh off the disk and before I even set up my config. or mt controls, I jumped right in the game and still ext. volumes are crazy high. PLZ tell me I am overlooking something simple. If not Plz tell me I can download a free .wave file editor and lower the ext. engine, eplotion, bullet hit, ext. startup(shit the list could go on forever). Anyways plz tell me what you think.

{edit} so i switched back to my onboard sound driver and this solved the problem. But its not a real fix. I want to use my sound card. It just narrows it down to a pc problem and not a IL-2 problem. I guess now I can spend the next 2 days trying to download the UI1.1 and install. I still need help, plz.

Hi

I'm at work & cannot provide you with specific details but i have had this before. Firstly, everytime you install new hardware it always takes some tweaking, once sorted, it works fine, so don't despair.

Any soundcard is better than the onboard soundcard, as sound is a major factor in using up pc resources when playing il2.

Your soundcard must have come with a tool that gives you all the fancy sounds, ie theatre, ballroom, disco & all that crap.

Keep things basic inititially, set up your il2 ingame settings to default, then play around with the sound card settings. Also you might need to adjust the ingame volumes etc, it's tedious work & it takes a while as every time you test you need to fly & see if it's sorted.

Select a/c that opens cockpit so you can also test the difference & fire your guns. Once you are happy, then slowly increase your in game settings until happy.

I have a link to a tutorial at home, i will post tonight. It was done prior to mods but it explains the issues wilth il2 & sounds & helped me in solving this problem.

I fixed it, but I dont know if its correct, after a new vanilla install, in the setup I put all sound setting to default and unchecked the audio enhancment and hardware accelerator. After playing the game for a minute I upped the playback channels and the sampling rate. Everything is still fine. Which makes me think it has something to do with the hardware accelerator. Now that its off I have no problems, but shouldn't that make the sound better. Shouldn't I want that on.

Congrats, it all depends on your system, no expert here but if you have an old machine, don't push it & consider yourself lucky
