il2 history
#1

Hey all,

I am working on a website that is going to have some history of our beloved game. I got a couple of questions. First, who was it that initially cracked il2 code for mods? Second I remember way back before IL2 came out, that somewhere in a forum Oleg (or someone from Maddox Games) posted some announcements about the game and a follow on thread, does anyone remember this and what forum it was. Also does anyone have any archive material from the early days of the flight sim?

Any help will be credited on my site for doing so.

Unbeknown to us the Russians cracked the game way before anybody on this side of the pond knew about it in 2004\2005

QTim is a big name of the early IL2 modding days. He is responsible for the SFS extractor if I am not mistaken ... correct me if I am wrong here.

Also Mr.Jolly and Lt.Wolf. They made all of the AI flyable with pits. They litterally were leading the way for months when the sound mod came out ... Them two (maybe others) made ALL the AI planes flyable. Also Rawrnes too.

I don't remember which map was first to come out. I do know it started with retextering. The names of Bee and FlyZo come to mind there ...

You might contact these individuals, I am sure they would be happy to help you with what happened. Alot here happens behind the scenes.

Anyway, that's all I got.

This is where map modding began here at AAA I believe.

It was Lowfighters first post...

SG2_Wasy, if I'm not mistaken, he broke the code with the sound mod, then Jolly and Wolf started making cockpits for AI planes, I've been here since before the breakthrough.

i'm not sure m8's but is this wise to investigate or make it public, think there could be some legal issues going on which could backfire on the innitiators of the mods, pls be careful ...

Not that I don't appreciate everyones hard work here, I do. What I am mainly looking for is they Russian that cracked it first, unless someone here also cracked it from scratch so to say.

I am not really trying to dig up bones here, just trying to put together a time frame within IL2s history (or should I say LONG history). I don't really need to many details, just who and when.

Anyone here have any of the other info? Like early (pre-ubisoft) forum posts from Oleg and Company?

Holy cow, just reading some of the posts on the UBI forum thread, these are dated 2005 and ppl are talking about IL2 still having a bit of life in it. Funny how far we have come in such a few years. It seems that IL2 may have a LONG life at this rate. In some way I fear BOB being released and sucking the wind out of all the MODS. I know I will be tempted to pay BOB a lot more attention for a while, but I doubt that IL2 will not stay on my HD, its been there since 2001. Besides BOB will initially only have a few planes and certainly not the IL2 or the GO229 that *I* like. So I am sure it will hag around until SOW completely replaces our experience with IL2 series.
