Please help: getting rid of objects on pre-made maps
#1

Hello,

I'll try to explain without confusing you.....I hope. I download a map. I install map. I load map up and have a look at it. I notice hangers/camouflage nets/brick walls/fuel barrels and containers around airfields and the list goes on . I don't want these items here and there. So what is the most simplest/easiest/basic and any other lament term that you can think of to get rid of these objects.

I think I know that objects are contained in the static.ini file, but; when I open it all I see is codes/symbols etc.

Kind regards

Is this to be for your own private use at home or for sharing?

We could do with a tool which would remove selective Objects from an actors.static file... or perhaps replace certain Objects with a different one..

Dont change your static.ini
This will create all sorts of problems with other maps or missions which use the same objects.

My method would be to open the actors.static using ActorsLite from the basic map tools pack.

Then I edit the text using TextPad http://www.textpad.com/

With this you can search for lines which contain specific text strings
Mark the text lines, and delete all the marked lines.

Alternatively you can substitute new text strings for all of the ones you want to change.

Easy and quick.

Another way is to use Zuti's Actors Management Tools http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?anwdmmddm12
-- but I have no experience of using these. See this tutorial by EasyRider (The link is inoperative)

This may seem dumb; but why not just use wordpad which comes with Windows? I ask because I am starting to tinker with my own mods and I am trying to learn more.

Any text editor will work but its best if it has good facilities for finding and marking text strings and replacing strings with alternative text or deleting the marked text.

Some of the big actors I've been working with have 1.5 million lines of text. It is not practical to visually scan for the text you are trying to find. TextPad works for me, but I'm sure there are plenty of other alternatives.

For the use on a online dogfight server, all credits go to developer of the maps etc.
