I recently had to reinstall 1946 and found that all went well in version 4.08. Upgrading to 4.09b1m, of a sudden the sim wouldn't load. I've uninstalled everything (several times), re-installed, tweaked my graphics card, done all the standard PC maintenance (defrag, etc.), and today tried installation but with the new 4.09m that we've all been so desperately waiting for. No luck! I'm running XP Pro 32 SP3, NVIDIA GeForce 6200, have plenty of RAM. I've also got 1946 installed on a Vista laptop, which works fine. Any suggestions and advice?

I am experiencing the same issue with 4.09m. I had a modded install, which I uninstalled. I then installed IL-2 fresh from the disk and checked it. The initial 4.07 ran fine. I then installed v4.08 and tested it. It ran fine. I then installed the new 4.09m patch and the game will not load. My specs are very similar to yours, Black Angus. Win XP pro sp3, Geforce 6200 and 1 GB of RAM. Is it possible that the Geforce 6200 is not supported by the new patch?

Try backing up the mg_snd.dll & mg_snd_sse.dll from the original 1946 install (Ver. 4.07) and use them instead of the new ones.
You can also choose to just unpack the files from 4.09 in a directory and copy all of the files EXCEPT those 2 DLLs.
Then try again.

also check that you don't have a modified IL2fb.exe when you installed the patch
