A Bp_Midway Story [VIDEO]
#1

My first attempt at a half way decent video from coop play (without the tags, etc...)

I strung along some clips from IL2 coop play over Bp_Midway and made this vid. Textures by Bombsaway and mod by: Panzerkeil ; MOD-HANGAR v1.0 + v2.0;Credit for the map goes to Boosher for creating it and panzerkeil for his static actors.

Thanks , hope you enjoy ... I sure as hell did. I have a great appreciation for the fighters who got up in those F4Fs. Salute

Really nice video, your computer must be powerful to run the game with so beautiful graphics.

Nice vid. Makes me wonder though why folk are still flying the crap stock Midway map (even with the BP excellent additions it's still poor) after I spent all that time researching and making an accurate and better-looking one... Sad

katdog5 , I love it. Thank you for making such cool vid. Keep it up. I think you'll go far with making IL2 vids. Thank you for the credit on my small part with the textures. I love the map. It was the BP_Midway map that inspired me to make my first good texture for. Please keep the vids coming. Great job. Big Grin

@dunkelgrun , Your map is really nice. I know you must have put alot of time in to it. Would you mind if I suggest a texture of mine for it for guys who would like to add it to your cool map? Its at the SAS.

Big Grin Please do. There's nearly always something that can be improved on any map. I've since seen quite a few things that I would have used myself, if they were available at the time.

Your map may indeed look more accurate and be "better looking," however I saw the other release first with hd video and pictures.

Also, It was the BP_midway map that got me excited about Il2 again. That map rocks! that coral, the sand...and the perfectly placed static tress...Im confused.....I wouldn't consider it "poor" ???

Poor in its depiction of reality. Not the BP team's fault though; like many stock maps in IL-2, Oleg's mapmakers were a bit... 'imaginative' ...or maybe lacking in it. Everything I placed on my map was based on extensive research - you've no idea how many times I watched that bloody film of John Ford's. It got to the point where I could figure out which parts were genuine footage and which were filmed AFTER the attack. I used every bit of info on the web, and every map and book I was able to lay my hands on, in order to make the most accurate map I could. Obviously, there are limits with the available objects for buildings etc, but compare the two maps and you'll easily see the vast difference between 1C:Maddox's fictional Midway and my attempt at a true re-creation.

This is what happens when you spend thirty years as a cartographic surveyor; maps are in my blood and there's nothing I like better than trying to make historical ones. Mind you, I enjoy the research just as much!

Yeah, FRAPS almost kills my computer with Il-2.

Hope you don't mind...Here's a link to a movie from long ago with a similar 'story'...but long before most mods were openly available, back in 2005.
