my thought.....no

Three things I learned about vid cards that is important:
- memory clock
- core clock
- memory bandwidth (higher the better)

Use this vid card comparasin chart if you want....great tool to help decide.

Good luck on your hunt for your card m8!

If you want it to play Il-2 HELL NO! The 7950GT is simply MUCH faster in older games, and it can be still faster in some newer. In the newest both cards would be lacking performance. The 9500GT is only renamed 8600GT with some different clocks (slower memory, marginally faster GPU clock) and it has the very same POOR performance. The G86 - G96 core used on 8600 and 9500 was a great dissapointment on its release.

Here's another comparison web tool:

If you want to really upgrade your card over G71 (7950GT) I would say go for Radeon HD4670 at least or slightly more expensive but a decent performer - HD4850. If you prefer nvidia, then everything under 8800GT or 9600GT would not be worth opening your PC's case Big Grin

Hell yea..i'm running IL2 in the almost highest settings with an older Radeon3870 (512MB mem) with Omega drivers from 18 months ago and you know what..

it's like on steroids! in this game only slower by margin compared to newer cards like 4850 and to be had for about 50 or 60 euro's!

buy 2 and put them in Crossfire

You're right, the 3870 will also perform extremely well in Il-2, but I think the crossfire is generally a waist, especially considering the thermal and electrical power issues. It's for hardcore gamers
