New conf.ini tweak and DLLs link for nvidia user (pic)
#1

After reading several people different conf.ini tweaks for IL-2 1946, because of that I have decided to post mine where I hope it will be helpful to these whom have medium to high end nVIDIA video card. I have done a lot of researching and tweaking in conf.ini while installing new DLLs for nVidia user from http://mission4today.com/index.php?name=...s&id=3246, I highly recommend these. Before I post the changes in conf.ini, they are recommended for any video card from 7xxx series to high end video card because they will cause spluttering with slow down FPS for any low video card users. And keep in mind, each of you may have different resolutions running either windowed or full screen, please change them to your own liking. Here is my changes in conf.ini and I hope that this community enjoy these screen shots too:

Yes normaly I got that setting on 8 but those jagged edges are clearly to see if it's turned off.
I must say I dont't see a lot of effect when I put Anisotropic on a application control or 4 or 8.

To watch my vid it's best to set it to fullscreen & HD to see the effects.

Of course AA rules. Normally I set it at 4 or 8Q. I don't use AF over 8 cause it seems produce stutters.
Thanks

I've been doing this for years. Stencil buffer? That's the application AA and should be turned off to avoid conflicts. AF you will see the effects of this just before taking off from a long strip. ie blurry background,

I don't believe Il-2 has application anti-aliasing. Stencil buffer enables translucent shadows and is required for perfect settings. Polygon stipple is an alternative for shadows if stencil buffer is off.

I am using 16xq and 8x, makes the pits look real nice, none of that framework stepping effect when turning etc, makes the scenery look really nice as well Smile

Great Topic!

I did notice that the DirectX segment of the list seems to be missing: water=. Is there any particular reason for this omission?
My rig runs W Vista 64, dual core, 3GB RAM, GeForce Go 7150M. The pre-rendered frames is set by me at 6 prf. This allows me to turn other settings higher, even a big bunch of conf.ini settings. My laptop is over-clocked about 3.2% with forced-air cooling pad under the laptop. Be very careful with overclocking because overheating can fry your CPU. The leaves have come out on the forest trees, texture upon texture, cloud vapor on the fringes, and many other details not seen in the stock setting have "popped-out". Big Grin

To get the stepped-jagged edges faded, my next project is to get BOTH of my dual cores to process IL-2, then go to 8X. See the Topic: Multi-core CPUs, where they cover the switching of both or all cores to process IL-2, which is not the stock setting-by the way. Let me know if this helps someone, okay?

That's because DirectX does not support Perfect Landscape mode, which is where you get the realistic (Perfect) water. If you want Perfect Landscape, and realistic water, you have to run the game in OpenGL.

Please help me here guys, cause I am confused about something. In another website, I read that a guy can only get decent graphics-especially 3D motion-if NVIDIA Geforce cards render DirectX commands. When I ran the sim in OpenGL and adjusted the water to perfect, then I saw nice "perfect" water. It really does look like water. However, performance was poor and some texture features did not appear that do render in DirectX, even after tweeking conf.ini and adjusting the NIVDIA controls. I'll re-read this Topic and retrack my efforts. Perhaps I am missing some important detail. Yes, I did go to setup in IL-2 and switched to OpenGL. These experiments are being done on my offline modding copy so I don't mess the online playing. Can someone give me a definative answer as to which one is better for both image and performance: DirectX or OpenGL? Thank you guys ahead of time.

[Edition:] P.S. My Go 7150M does not have any Antialiasing overide. Does anyone know if getting the 8000 or 9000 series drivers installed would be compatible with my 7170 ?
