First at all, I want to tell you all that I had a very amazing ride in B-17G Liberty Belle And I will certain share my experiences with all of you, especially with picture and video included when I have time. I was at Dallas, Texas during March of 2009 when B-17G Liberty Belle (spelling?) landed at air museum and that was when my father and I was very lucky because we didn't know we had a perfect timing and we took an opportunity to have a ride in that B-17G! We always have been military aviation buff through our life. My father used to fly aircraft (I am not sure which kind of aircraft he flew, I will have to find out someday.) himself as civilian when he was young, and I once flew myself in one of Cessna plane and it was great time.
However, now let's get back to the point... What do I mean when I said something about vibrating/rattling/shaking cockpit or internal view? After a ride in B-17G and watching many of different video of internal view in warplanes that flew, I realized one thing that IL-2 1946 have been critically missing. And that is vibrating that caused by engine at different RPM setting when engine runs. When I had a all ride in B-17, it kept vibrating all the way and everything rattled lightly when was in air. But when my father and I got slammed by Gs force when engine roared (Even being deaf, I could feel extremely loud vibrates that came from these four engines), and everything was rattling hard when taking off.
When I fly IL-2 1946, there is something that is lacking that made us not really feeling as if we were in actual WWII visually. So i thought that, in order, to add more of immerse elements in visual way, the vibrating rate should be implemented based on RPM setting. Imagine all cockpit vibrating when you are in flight, you would have more 'feeling' of actually being in there. I have never seen any vibrating visually in my IL-2 9146 for many years and it always felt like its too 'smooth' ride to have an 'authentic' WWII immerse feeling visually in World War II warplanes. I don't about jet or turbo propeller powered aircraft vibrating but I always suspicious that the 'vibrating' of these engine are much lower compared to piston propeller engine, therefore giving pilots much more smoother ride.
And for 'shaking' part, depending on how hard you land, there should be 'slamming effect' of shaking effect depending on how hard you land. When I was in B-17G Flying Fortress, when she landed, I could feel the 'slamming shaking' effect where it was quite awesome experience too, where it tells me how tough bastard B-17G is... However, can you imagine if one of you land F6F Hellcat on aircraft carrier, with her tough legs, at once you land on aircraft carrier, your cockpit would shake up/down then your 'view' would automatically lean toward cockpit then suddenly move back to normal position when hook get caught by aircraft carrier deck's cable.
however, there also should be violent shaking inside cockpit when you get hit hard by flak shells, depending on how large flak shells explosive is and how far/close flak explosive is. Imagine this, being in B-24J, gong through very thick flak shells everywhere where they fill up sky everywhere. Every time they nearly miss you, they would sent 'shock' effect near your plane, causing your internal view to 'shake'. If you were hit by flak and still survive, it should give you hard 'slamming' shaking. Combination of this with realistic, loud flak hitting sounds will certainly give you much more immerse experiences being in World War II and get some 'tastes' of how it feel when many of bombers have gone on mission to hell where they raised from ground into air...
So do you guys and gals think of this? If any of you had a experience riding in any World War II warplanes, please post them here to confirm your experiences of engine rattling/vibrating in whole rides. The modding of IL-2 1946 have been rapidly expanding so much and it have been proved that creative modders have managed to add new interesting features to IL-2 1946, especially inflight refueling. So I thought this would be right time to post my idea here where I have always thought about this.
Chaoic out...
