Is the IL2 community trying to commit suicide?
#1

Will modders and Pack-makers please start talking to eachother already?
What versions are in use? Well... We have 408 unmodded, 408 Modded,
408 Modded w 6DOF... We have 4091b unmodded, 4091b Modded and
of course 4091b Modded w 6DOF ...and now apparently we have an
official release of 409 which one *thinks* should depricate the 4091b...
But apparently not, since AAA releases the UI1.2 with 409b1... Which
means we have 3 more versions of the game. Thank you AAA!!!

I came to IL2 about 2 years ago, and AAA felt like a unifying force within
the IL2 community. Which is why I've been recommending the UI to new
people I've met. But as the UI1.2 doesn't include the ?official? 409, I'm not
so sure anymore.

I'm about to give it all up... I love IL2... But I'm getting sick of trying to find a
with correct settings, mods, versions...etc... etc.. ad infinitum...

...before someone calls a Waaaaambulance on me, here are some actual questions...

Can someone explain to me:

A: Why does 408 even still EXISTS at ALL?
(Even if there once *was* a reason, perhaps it is time to reconsider?)

B: Why does UI1.2 not include the ?official? 409 version?
(This one actually boggles me the most... if you're not sure if mods will work with
the new, official, patch... why not WAIT with the release of UI1.2?)

IMO, AAA should try depricating 408 and 409b1 asap!
and I wouldnt mind if Hyperlobby just didn't even LIST earlier versions anymore.

They need a little time to get the the UI squared with the new official patch.

Be satisfied with what you have even if its fresh out of the box.

All in good time, we are all working towards this but it takes time.

And... your arguing that.... I should... go "pure"?
And that I should tell everyone not to use UI or any other mod-pack at all?

(I'm noting that neither of my actual questions got answered by your post...)

You need 4.08 to use 4.09 and + and as far as I know mods only work with 4.08 and 4.09b1m.

Anybody correct me if im wrong.

All I'm saying, is remember how excited you were when you first got the sim?
Even with 100 addons, some people will never be satisfied. Stay wherever you are comfortable. Everything will come to you eventually. There are plenty of planes and bullets for now.

You don't have to use anything. We have jobs and a real life outside of modding. Yes it's frustrating that you have many modded version but you have to understand the frustration we go through trying to get all these bits together and working. As Monguse said, they're working on it (with time permitting). Until then, enjoy what you have.

As for your quesions,

A: Because 4.09b1m was a beta patch and certian members of the community did not want to use it. Also it was only recently that a dedicated server patch for it was made, hence why 408 is still around

B. Becasue parts of UI1.2 were incompatible with 4.09m. As I understand UI1.2 was supposed to be out earlier but a few bugs held it back. The 4.09m patch appeared after the installers had been uploaded and I guess for the sake of getting it out, they released it. This allows people to try the new content while they sort out issues with 4.09m compatiblity.

So once this is sorted, I'd imagine the door will be closed on 4.08 and 4.09b1m. Until then, live with what you've got. The rest of us are

The only reason 4.08 lasted as long as it did was because there was no dedicated server till the modders made one.. but that was for 4.09b1. There is nhow an official 4.09 DS.. soon 4.08 wuill go the way of it's predecessors.. As for the versions w or w/o 6DoF.. That always kind of bugged me too.. it would seem that the mod packs would just include it.. If you don't have TIR or dont use it then turn it off... but IMO 6DoF should be included in all the mod packs.

This community will be around for some time. I have no dougbt about that.

as Anto said, the 2 projects (UI 1.2 and 4.09m) were developed and tested seperately. I have no knowledge of how team Daidalus works but the UI team moves at the speed of a hobby and our real lives come 1st.

if you see this progress as "comitting suicide" it is due to a lack of data on the subject.
1.1 = getting everyone together
1.2 = getting everyone to use the same language
1.3 = building the vocabulary.

hang in there, good stuff to come....AC, maps, weather etc.

many things are very close to complete but didn't have that last little part it needed to be kicked out the door in 1.2

Couldn't say it any better Thrud! Thats how it has evolved and 1.3 (or a patch for 1.2) will bring the the mods onto the 'same vocab'.

There is also many other mods that just missed out, such as mine, Muas's and Karaya's Spits Mk Ib, IIa, IIb, Va and Hurricane Mk IIa. Plus a few beta aircraft weren't finished in time (eg. PeterDs Mig and Sabers). So really lots of goodies to come, just need to wait. If you are willing to pay us, then maybe

You overestimate the importance of 4.09m, it doesnt includes too much extra content compared to the one year old beta patch
I got 4.09b1m with mods and I am perfectly satisified with it, I play only offline so no online troubles.

If AAA releases a buttons file (also called AC installer) which supports 4.09m I will install it.
SAS already released a buttons file like that but they support the weapon/fm related changes (I could not find any documentation so I hesitated to install it) of stock planes (thats why their site read offline modding) but AAA doesnt, thats the big difference.

SAS went offline recently (hacked probably) and as far as I know AAA tries to help them to get back online so probably they talk to each other in the process.

Cheers

The OP is best to go away on holiday to somewhere without any internet and return in six months....
then we will have 5.1 combined with UI 1.4 and all running tickety-boo

as to the starting remark of this thread:

1946 CD => 408 => U.I. 1.1 => U.I. 1.2 => SAS modact v2. Result: 409m + 1.2.

All is working as advertised, everything is complete, I threw 3 other installs away and am now a happy camper....
