Should It Really Take This Time to Start?
#1

For some reason it takes a very long time for my game to start. It loads very fast, but in the time it takes to start I can go get a plate of crackers and cheese, open a can of soda, and check my Facebook, which takes about 5 minutes. Is there a way to make it go faster or am I stuck like this? I have the UI 1.2 and the works, just to let you know.

with the mods installed your game should load slower because it's now way bigger than the stock game.

out of the box il-2 = about 4 GB not including paint schemes

IL-2 + 1.1 and 1.2 = about 14 GB not including paint schemes folder

as you can see, your game has put on some weight and has to read all that to load.

If it's any consolation, I too can start up the game, and while waiting for it to load, I have enough time to go rummage for something to eat, and be back with enough time to spare ... say about 4 to 5 minutes. Of course it used to take far less, but that's what happens when you install mods ...

If the loading time bothers you, then you should think about which mods you could possibly un-install ...

It's all a trade-off. Play the unmodded game and it starts up quickly. Mod to your heart's content and it takes considerably longer.

i use several mods folders in my 1946 mod directory folder:

it looks similar to this:

-mods

--mods

---mods

Mods

The active mods folder won't have any "-" next to it. What ever mods are in the folder will get loaded into the game.
If you know which mods you will be needing, say for a particular server, then you can designate a mod folder for that server. You can even change the folder icons to help you keep track of which server the mods folder is based on. If you know which server you will be joining just replace the "-" so the proper folder is activated for use.

I really only have the need for three folders, one is used to test new mods, the other is a streamlined version with only 20 or so mods that i work on most servers, and the full UI1.2 mod pack.

Its not too much hassel and i figure its better than having 3 or 4 copies of the game which i saw some people doing. You really only need different copies of the mods folders.

Just a suggestion.

It's only the initial loading of the game that does take the longest loading time.. if you quit out of it straight away and try loading again you'll see its much quicker.. this is a good tip if you are playing online and want to get into mission early and don't want to be last into a co-op.. load the modded game first before going into hyperlobby then quit out.. when the host then launches the game you should get in alot quicker.

I have 3 installs on my pc.

(1) AAA v 1.2 ui (takes about 60 sec to load to main screen)
(2) HSFX v 4 (takes about 15 sec to load to main screen)
(3) Standard TD v 4.09m (takes about 10 sec to load to main screen)

Of the two modded versions HSFX is the lighter on frame rates and as you can see much quicker to load (AAA I hear is about to update their UI to version 1.2.5?? so hopefully this will improve the load times).

Not really.

1.2.5 will add 4.09 compatibility to the UI pack.

To improve load times (and also decrease disk footprint) UI needs to be re-packed into SFS files, as HSFX is. I hear this is in the works, but not yet for 1.2.5.

So maybe 1.3?

Changing some files to sfs I understand is going to be part of UI 1.2.5 (maybe one of the moderators could shed more light on the subject).
