two monitors, two different screen shots, is this possible?
#1

Hi, helpers.

Many of today video cards have the posiibility of handling two monitors: Mine has; but I would like to have a cockpit view of my aircraft (normal view) on one of the monitors and i.e. my target view, my aircraft external view, my ground target camera, or whatever different possible view in the other. Has anyone done this? if yes, how? any advise will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Highly doubt it.

I'm running with 2 monitors and only one of them is showing the game. The other I use for other information such as system monitoring, and when flying in full switch servers I have the map on full screen on the second one.

Thanks ArticViper

I was afraid of the answer, but...., have to ask; So far I have my mouse running between the two monitors, and stuck with both screens showing the same information. Havn't tried the server the way you mention. Maybe in a near future a modder cold make a dream com true. Again thanks for your answer

I run two monitors and I usually run the game on one and TS on the other, so far as I know the game doesn't support having more than one view from the game running, not like say MSFS which can run different window views. However running two different desktop screens is possible
so you can have the game on one and any map or other still picture on the other one. Nvidia allows this through Desktop Manager which has to be activated in the Nvidia control panel then you can take different screens and apply them to each monitor. You want to use Dual View to have two different ones, maybe when SOW comes out it may allow you to put something on another monitor but I've never seen anyone put the question forth on the 1C forum.

Thanks Fa_Bong

Yes, I do have an nVidia 8800 GTS 640, and also the nVidia Manager installed, BUT (Capital Letters are OK) my abilities handling these sophistications do not go beyond of "cut and Paste"; however, in the other hand, I can fall down and standup on the fly, and have a permanent helmet when fiddling with my computer. So I will keep myself trying and see where I finish. Thanks both of you, be in touch.

I would like to know how this is done.

I'm using a laptop with a 17" monitor attached. I usually leave the laptop screen off all together.
I've run both screens before using the big monitor as my main screen, but the game will minimize if i click on the other screen. It also becomes an issue because i'm using the mouse to pan, which still causes the mouse to move around on the other screen.

Hi. While IL-2 doesn't support more than one monitor, you can definitely do one of 2 things:
In either windows or your graphics card utility, set up twin monitors in the "extend my desctop" mode. Then position the monitors the same way you have them stacked (i used to use 2 cheapo acer widescreens one on top of the other) and fire up IL-2. Drawback: there's a screen border, though really narrow, which becomes a pain, and you've basically got just 1 monitor, only bigger.
There are a bunch of apps which use devicelink to do practical thing with your second monitor - like display instrument gauges, or, for that matter, pretty much any info. They are intended to link to a second box, but if configured with localhost for an addy, you can use the second screen. Though nothing quite as easy as M$ flight sim.
'luck,

Hi everclear.

Interesting approach, but there are two things that I don't get:

1- If you have two monitors staked, I guess that you have those narrou tipe (16:9) and you get something like 16x18, but I you have conventional 3x4 monitors, trhen you get.......3x8; am I right?

2- those applications or bunch of utilities, can you give me one name please?

Thanks for making me think!

Edit: 6x4 ???

Do I hear 4x3?

Since you have an nVidia card, then use nView to set up your multiple monitors. Look for "Set up multiple displays" in your driver control panel. If your two monitors are identical resolution you can use Horizontal span, or Dualview. If the monitors are different resolutions, then only Dualview will work.

Hi - one of the apps, and the one you may be most interested in, is San's POV Changer http://il2fovchanger.byethost7.com/ - look at the screenshots, it's supposed to let you run multiple monitors & more... I think it's still in Beta, i've tried it, and it basically "fisheyes" the image. It's nest feature is that it allows you to use any (within reason) aspect ratio, without vertical cutoff (as in wide-screens - see his screenshots), or the weirdness on the sides (as i remember, http://mission4today.com/index.php?name=...ls&id=2169 allows you to set up widescreens, but when you fly with no cockpit, you see weirdness...).
UDP Speed is something I haven't tried yet (i'm not at home right now - sick at my parent's house, so... no racks of 'puter boxen & trash-find monitors), but here's a link: http://mission4today.com/index.php?name=...377&page=1. Devicelink is something I'm going to figure out, while I have all this free time. Again, the app is designed for linking with a second box, but you can point it right back to localhost (127.0.0.1).
As far as aspect ratio goes, a stacked pair of widescreens gives you basically a 1:1 square (16:18, but who's counting), as apposed to 4:3 which IL was designed for. Really wasn't a problem for me, didn't mind the cut sides. Anyhow, the first app will help that. You can, of course, do a bit better by putting the widescreens on their sides, and rotating the screens in the graphic card's control appy, but then the annoying line would be *vertical*, just where you don't want it to be.
Finally, the only really *usable* multi-monitor setup for a sim is a triple head, so you got your basic cockpit (or a quad-head, with the top screen, so you can look up!). Since I couldn't afford to go triple or quad, and the curiosity value of dual screens wore thin pretty quick, i stick to a single monitor, and try to be good by flying with the cockpit on. The fact that some gauges get clipped with a wide-screen setup never bothered me. Good luck and have fun,
-d.

Gentlemen

Thanks a million for your tips, and yes, I will be playing around with my two monitors and the tips and links that I have received Smile will start with FOV changer, which I think I downloaded already (have to check my pendrive) and see what happens. Not having success, I disconnected couple of days ago one of the monitors, so I have to redo (big deal!). I'll let you know what I get. Much appreciated.
