Are multy mod packs killing IL2 ? IL2 needs UNIFICATION

Hello IL2 community.

I am a IL-2 enthusiast and the provider of =FN=War_Server (UI 1.2 + Zuti08Final), and it is wonderfull how much mods are making this sim better, but there is something not going very well.
Today there is so much mod packs nobody nows what to download anymore. You have a option to have 3-4 IL-2 installations or you will not able to join THAT server or THIS server.

We are all mature people (i guess), and there is so much hard work involved on that mods what make me able to tell with sure. WE NEED TO WORK TOGHETER.

We need a UNIQUE MOD PACK.

Nobody take care if it will be called xpack or ypack, or who will have the credits. Everybody who works on this mods diserves the credits. We need to make the mod communities to come togheter in a way all efforts becomes centralized in a single bigger place with bigger community and bigger support.

All mod packs have something special and use eachother works.

All we need is to make that mods community leaders to work togheter because it can not became a (Mod Pack War).
Soon we will have one mod pack each week and all squadron will have one and then IL2 will be DEAD.

Take the pride feellings asside and lets walk side by side.

Hi.

If i can give my modest opinion....I agree 100% except one detail.

I think we need a standard base intallation , a common good for all people...no more distinction between 4.08, 4,091bm, 4.09 final. But not a total mod pack, people should decide what is in or not.

The day we will have a 4.09final modded it would be easier for the people.

Once there is only 4.09 modded or unmodded the problems will be less........ then it will just be a matter of the CRT=2 crap to get over.
Coops don't have the problems...its the DF servers which are afraid of anyone getting a slight advantage and crying about unfair play :roll:
the DF hotdogs are the ones with most of the ego problems..

It is the same with the mod packs...each developer thinks his is superior to the rest...and egos get in the way far too often...in il2...as in life..

If you were all Buddhists it would lessen the problem....we are taught to diminish our egos :wink:

Sorry mate but I disagree because multi installation are a must for allow less experienced gamers to join the IL2 modded community avoiding the complexity of manual installation and future trouble due incompatibility becouse the born with an installer and a specific support (and are hard tested before thir release). It's true that they are many but many are also the origins of the people that join them!

If someone look , not so much far , at an enemy it can be (I'm really afraid for!) the next release of SOW that can catch the most attention and cut the modders attention (the mod maker) from here to it!!!

100% agree with that, egos should be leaved outside, and only common sense should apply here.
At this moment the whole thing is starting to be a mess.
One mod pack as something the other don't have, other has something else...., the third one is 4.09 compatible, the previous ones are not....
I start to be tired (to not say more...) spending more and more time changing, updating,re-installing, than flying which is the initial purpose of this game...
I will stay now on UI 1.1 4.09bm, with my mods,customised maps and ini, until some order to be put in this system; if not I have enough pleasure flying like that, to wait for Storm of War....

I fly now again 4.09m original and was impressed how fast the game loads and how smooth it fly's after flying months the UI mods and lot more... Last time i was online whit modded game i was doing more reserch how to make us compatible whit the server. Mods are not so bad but we need to have all the same installed and thats not possible whit all the stuff right now.

The difficult part is trying to get all the different modding communities to agree on common parts. Regardless of trying to ignore egos, it plays a huge part in this process. BUT at least some common ground has been met between the communities in regards to buttons files, meaning parts of mod packs will become more interchangable.

I've always found the group of people you fly with dictate what mods you run. UI is good for most servers but I know quite a few online groups make they're own packs (my group II/JG53 are currently in the process of compiling the next version). Unless someone starts paying modders and a boss is appointed, I doubt the community will produce a single unified pack. At the moment there are 4 packs (C6, HSFX, Ultrapack and UI1.2), just be happy they're ain't more!

Aside from a few buttons required for new planes, most of the mods packs use the wrapper/Mods folder format, meaning i can place a mod i found on another site into my mods folder in my 1.2 install with no issues. AAA doesn't condone this because not every mod (mostly new aircraft mods) is going to be compatible. I think they don't want to take responsibility for someone else's stupidity, which i completely understand. i also think that most of the mod users are not the lowest common denominator, and intelligent enough to use the mods with care.

For myself, i'm not the type to download an entire new mod pack just so i can fly one or two more planes, than what i already have.
The reality is most servers online are using 1.2 and so the need for extraenious installs is really cut down by that.
Really all you need are 4.09m, and 1.2 which has 4.08, and 4.09b1. TWO INSTALLS at most.
To run mods with 4.09m i use HSFX which has the switcher so i can still run a clean 4.09m. Still only two installs.

The other complexities arise when individual servers also require their own mod packs. There are only a couple of these from what i can see, and they are never as populated as they could be if they tried using something more unified. It is their server, or squad, so they are entitled to play as they wish, and maybe that particular group is happy with their server and pack, which is completely fine with me.

The majority of servers i can still play on, using only two installs.
People want to make it more complicated than it is, or make it out to be something that its not by exaggerating their claims or problems, might also have an agenda of their own.

It seems that everyone is and all there talking about is how the mods are killing the game if they dont become unified, the game died long ago when maddox announced SOW what we have left is a free modded version that has become better than the original, more enjoyable, and different things to different people. There are several versions you can fly the only problem is people being people they want everything, they want to be able to join any server at any time and not worry about somebody haveing a different FM on this plane or a different DM on that plane.
The Game thanks to the modding community can be for me atleast and the people who I fly with Korea The Jet Age, to others soon it will become the skies over the battle scarred earth in WWI with the edition of Canvas Knights, while others still enjoy the continued evolution of the aircraft that filled the skies of WWII.
I am no modder but I can only imagine the work and effort that goes into making a new plane testing, editing, flight models etc. or any new mod that has been presented for our use, asking these people to check there ego at the door for the good of the game seems a little harsh to me, ego I would say has a bit to do with driving these people to create better mods.
One single version of a modded game I really do not think that is the answer, picking the version you and the people you fly with and enjoying it for what it is,
One bright spot as was said earlier is the cooporation in the different modders with the buttons files hopefully helping ensure that the aircraft are kept on a level and fair playing feild.

For me after i've discovered HFSX with sfs compression there is no more doubt:
I'll sitck with HFSX as I was really get bothered to wait 3-4 min for starting game as you have with U.I. method of mod compilation, now my game start in 20 sec. and i'm happy with this! :lol: :lol:

yes new HSFX is the best for now. but when new UP 1.8 will be released then I instal UP. Big Grin

Stick with AAA's UIs and you wont go wrong!

In that the rest of the mod makers really don't add anything to the UIs except add confusion. Espically when you consider all they are doing is downloading the UI and repackaging it. About the only orginal thing they do do is muddy the waters further modifying stock planes instaed of making new slots. Oh sure some of them might go as far as to write a little util program to do this or that, but even some of those are lifed from other sites.

In summary stick with the orginal AAA UI mods and you wont go wrong! Its all the standard you need!

Well, the better is the foe of the good.
UI 1.1 was good
UI 1.2 wasn't what it should have been.
UI 1.2.5 is still missing
HSFX has some pro's vs the other Mod packs, shorter loading times, niece additions for realism and, best of all, it's SEOW compatible.
The SEOW crowd looks very hard that there is no favoritism for red or blue. So the chance for UFOs is very small.
The best thing would be: all releases should be bug free!!! Better to miss the 51th spit or the 39th p51 or the 44th 190 than to have a buggy release.

Dont forget the main reason why the UI was made. It was not meant to be a competition in any way it was specifically designed to facilitate installation period.

Remember, not everyone knows how to use notepad or copy folders because quite frankly not everyone is 20 to 30 years old playing this sim.
