Great skins for the Swordfish, are they available ?? Big Grin

Hello lowfighter, It's good to know the detailing is looking good, It is a little difficult because of the lack of photographs but I'll persevere.

Some of the textures were originally blurred intentionaly in an attempt to remove the seams that appear when these things tile across the map, I was not very successful with it but I have yet to make replacements. With newer textures that I have Googled to use around Cam Rahn bay I have just used another texture overlaid to try to remove the seam. Sadly I don't have Agracier's talent for this thing, maybe I should ask him to texture the map eh.

Here are shots of the most recent textures around Cam Rahn, I have reverted back to using 512x512, didn't see much difference with 1024x1024 personally and it probably had an effect on frame rates.

At the moment there is a lot of experimenting going on with the map so nothing you see is yet final, hopefully it will look right eventually.

Nadia, the first skin in my previous post is a default for the Swordfish. Basically that is what you get if you select any country but the UK, in this case I selected France with markings on.

The second is a skin to portray the Swordfish as a Yokosuka B4Y Jean, lovely skin but I'm sorry to say I can't remember where I got it. I probably came across a thread somewhere asking for a skin to be made and got the link from there. :-? Agracier did a set for the Swordfish that includes a Japanese skin but it is un-marked. Available at M4T in the MODS section I think.

The skin you see in this post is my attempt to portray a French Potez 25 floatplane that was based at Hanoi in 1939. A work in progress at the moment made from Agracier's rather nice template.

Wishing you all the very best, Pete. Big Grin

Besides his talent in mapmaking he purchased a program (forgot the name of it) for making seamingless textures.

To be honest, I can't imagine that there isn't much difference in 512 and 1024 size textures. Especially when flying at low altitude with 1024x1024 textures it is less blocky. Take for instance the high rez textures on Redko's PTO maps, Agracier's Spain maps or Viking's Crete map.

Shame you can't remember that programme Lejo I need all the help I can get when it comes to textures.

As for the look at 512 or 1024 it is probably down to my textures, if I ever make some good ones I may just notice the difference.

It used to be in this forum section and Agracier used this program for his Catalunia or Andalucia map but that was in the 'good ole days' of AAA.
Since then a lot of stuff disappeared in cyberspace I guess 'cause I can't find that topic anymore. Cry
Just like M(ay)-Bug's Northwest Europe map or Redwulf_32's promissing Italy map.

I think this map looks bloody great, there is nothing wrong with the texturing at all and you most definately do have the talent to produce an awesome map that is right up there with the best of them, i can't wait for this one and that really does look like vietnam, all it needs is some music by the doors or jefferson airplane and a flight of 7th cav bell hughies and this map could take us straight to 1965.

I see that helicopters are now off the drawing board and flying as WIPs on their creators maps, with this in mind the bell hughey is surely not that far away and this could be one of the most popular maps ever made so keep up the good work.

I agree, your work looks great! I put together a little tutorial on making tileable textures. You can find it here....

Keep up the good work, looking forward to your map. Big Grin

Hello Lejo, even though many things were lost with the demise of AAA it is a credit to the admins that we still have so much still intact. As various members post asking where certain maps are the admin team usually manage to find them so don't loose hope of seeing your favourites again.

Glad to see you like the map so far Ziggy-22, there is a link in one of my posts for the last update, it doesn't contain all the detail you see here though, such as the naval base at Cam Rahn, you will have to wait for the next update for that.

HH_Blaze, thank you very much for posting the tutorial, I'll need to read it a few times to try and get my head around it. With a little luck even I may be able to make some decent textures following your instructions.

After reading various tutorials I now feel I can manage to successfuly remove the seams that are a real pain when tiling textures on the map.

Here are four of my most recent that have now been made seamless, no need to try to hide the seam with other textures now which improves the visual effect considerably, at least to me anyway.

These are set to 1024x1024 but I feel they have lost some of the clarity at this size, maybe my scaling was wrong when I Googled these. Anyway I'm slowly getting there I think.

Thank you very much to those who pointed me in the right direction on this, your help is much appreciated.

If still needed, here is another instruction of how to create seamless textures:

Thanks Lejo, I found a link for that posted by VP media today, while reading that I finally managed to get my head round this seamless texture thing.

Now we're talking! Looks excellent - nice how things fall into place once you get the gist of it. 8)

Patiently awaiting what is looking like one Fine map. Big Grin

Hello HH_Blaze, yes I think I'm finally getting there, being naturally dim it just takes me some time to catch up. I've now read various tutorials and each is different but they all reach the same destination. Some I understand better than others, or at least I think I do until I mess something up, which is most of the time. But the fun is in the experimenting and finally seeing things come together. I now think I have an idea of just what I'm doing with the map texture wise. Stay tuned. I will post a further update soon, keep going off at a tangent, testing new things. Still a lot to do, roads need adding everywhere, will be doing that the hard way, gives me more control of where they go and I can adjust things as I go along.

Wishing you all the very best, Pete. Big Grin

Looking forward! Big Grin
