Hi,
I posted this question in another thread, but maybe it was the wrong forum, so I will try here.
I install win7 Pro OS 64 bit. I am running 9 gigs of ram and not using swap files. In a couple of days will add 3 gigs for a total of 12 gigs of ram.
That is my base line setup
I have a clone HD with XP on it. IL2 works great on. I have 4.09m and AAA 1.1
This new OS I can load IL2 4.07, but when I try to load 4.08, windows gives me a fuk u message and tells me something is wrong with 4.08. On my XP machine I tested the 4.08 and it loads fine.
Each time I try to do a change, it screws up. I will then do an uninstall, erase whatever files are left in the directory, run a reg cleaner to clear out the register, empty the waste basket, then run a defrag program.
Load IL2 4.07, run it and it works fine, do the 4.08 upgrade and it hoses up again.
I have IL2 on a virtual dvd disk and the iso on my HD.
My next step was.... OK run it in virtual XP mode. Copy IL2 iso to the XP C drive, have virtual dvd drive in XP mode. install IL2. The install seems to work fine, but when I click on the short cut, nothing happens and there is nothing in the directory except the root IL2 file with nothing in it.
My other post in another thread, the replier said that he was running win7 and had no problem. Well this is the craziest thing trying to get IL2 to run with the 4.08, let alone the AAA 1.1 mod.
Now way back on one of my "installs" I loaded IL2, ran the JSGME modder, manually loaded the AAA mods and missions and got most of the planes and missions working, although I was missing the B-29 silver with the atom bombs, (like that baby when I have had a bad day and just want to blow things up).
Has anyone else experienced these problems or do you have a fix.
One last note. After loading IL2 in win7, I tried to right click the short cut for properties and check the compatibility mode. The only options are Vista, (yuk)
Is it because I am running this OS as a 64 bit machine? And will have to wait until a patch is available to run IL2 on a 64 bit machine.
Thank to all that will reply

Have you tried to install the game into the programs(x86) folder inside win7??(best thing is accually to just copy and paste it directly to the folder and then right click on it and give it admin rights and also to run in xpsp2)
I found this to be the easyest way to play il2 on win7. but that again is my experiance.
And yes i have tried it direct from a other drive too, but installed into the mentioned folder in win7 gave me the best resoult and less hazzle.

PS: I am running win7 utlimate rc 64 bit. and this has the game emulator imbeded into it.
I know some release versions of win7 do not have it so you better check if the pro accually has the emulator or not. or if it something thats only included on ultimate or simlar win7 releases.

What.

Futureproofing I guess. That extra memory won't help any games today that's for sure

More RAM won't fix the problem, I think.

I have got Win 7 Pro 64Bit with 6Gb of RAM, IL2 installed with UI 1.2 and every things running fine. Not had to even tell it to run in compatibility mode.

Can you take a screen shot of the error when you run IL2 in Win7?

I can't work out why 4.07 of the game will work but 4.08 will not work in Win7!!!

When you run 4.08 is it un-modded or is it modded?

If you only have a single choice in compatabilities, you may have a corrupted install

I updated my vista and had a lage selection of compatability going back to win 95.

however when I updated to Win 7 I too had problems, such as game ending abruply or kicking me to desk top. Hyper lobby could not find the .exe file even when I typed it in.

I went into prporties and compatabilites and activated the " play as administrator" button .

I then had to do this with all programs that interfaced with the game , such as : hyperlobby and DCG, any program that needed to add or get information to or from the game .

After doing that it run smooth and no problems have developed.

4.08 is un- modded.
I will do a screen shot later today.
I will try the copy and paste and my installs are in the Program X86.

Thank you for replying to this thread.
I guess I will need to buy a six pack and work through the hang ups.
BTW the 12 gig is for running the machine just on the ram and not using the HD for virtual mem. Runs a lot faster and with 12 gigs, I do not have to worry about running out of Mem.
I will see if I can download the game emulator from M.Soft, that might help and I will give administrator rights to all programs associated with IL2.
Let you know how it goes later

Ok, gave permission for administrator rights and got 4.08 into the correct root dir (programs X86) and so far so good. I will try 4.09m and the AAA mod tomorrow.
Thanks again

I've just installed Win 7 Home Premium 64 and I can't even get 1946's setup to run!

Autorun pops up and prompts me whether I want to run setup.exe from an unknown publisher, I agree, but nothing - DVD spins up for a few seconds and then just stops! I tried ''Run as Administrator" and it's the same, I never see anything after I've asked setup to run, not even an error message.

Ahhhhh! Will I be without IL2?

Any suggestions? The DVD does have a bit of a scratch on it, but it was never a problem with XP.

Goeff,
Sounds like a driver problem. But I could be wrong.
Can you use other DVD's????
Win7 is a learning curve, learning how and what goes where.
I have been screwing with it for 5 days and I am just starting to learn the OS.
I have found that coping the IL2 as a iso, then using a program that has a virtual drive has been working for me. Alcohol 120 I have had trouble with working with win7, but there is a program called Magic disk that does work to make virtual DVD drives. Mount the iso to the virtual DVD drive and run IL2 from it. After you mount the drive, give it Administrator rights, then run it. The IL2 iso and any updates will need the same rights.
Hope this works.

Thanks....

...for the tips RUCrzy2, but the DVD worked fine installing Win7, but I'll try it on some other DVDz and see what happens.

Bizarrely I ran my XP installation of IL2, including UI1.2, from the Windows.old directories and it was fine, so I copied the whole Ubisoft folder over to Program Files x86 and it also ran fine, so maybe that is one way around, and means I don't lose all my campaign progress to boot!

When I say fine, I didn't have any sound, but I think I've screwed up something with the sound mgmt on my Logitech 2.1 system and don't get any system sounds since I installed SoundMax, so that's probably not related to any IL2/Win 7 issues.
