[Poll] Who uses both SAS and AAA mod combinations?
#16

MrOblongo Wrote:Here HSFX4 + SAS Buttons + SAS Sounds in .SFS

So its a mix of AAA + SAS (Which have a lot from AAA) in a pack.
I use a combo of both AAA+SAS plus one or two otheres , but I am unfamiliar with HSFX4- what is it ( as if keeping up with mods isn't already hard enough!!! :???: ?)

HSFX4 is a pack containing most of the mods to date in .SFS format (game one) so it loads much faster. But the content is basically AAA+SAS.

Where is it - might be handy to have..with my history of reinstalling everything from time to time... :???:

the offliners have the upper hand because we don't have to consider server-compatibility

so: CD 1946 => 408 => 409b1m =>409m + HSFX v.4 + AAA 1.1 + AAA 1.2 + SAS mod.act v.2* + SAS buttons 2.4 + SAS mods + AAA mods

it works!

* not strictly necessary because JSGME is somewhere inthere (HSFX)

no wonder I get a little constricted around the chest and short of breath.....

next project: to incorporate FusionPack and/or UP 1.7.......

and then again: I could just wait for UI 1.8 + HSFX

it's rather confusing; the other day I found something called 'Uberpack'

I will download and use any idea that I like. I have a very poor internet connection so the UI approach and the associated download time was never an option for me. Because of this I never play on-line so I have no compatibility issues. I also like to install my MODS manually so that I know where things are. I enjoy tinkering and this has also helped me sort out a number of glitches. My only wish that AAA would make an allowance for people who either do not want or can download the UI.

That said it is still a great site and a super community

I would suggest to GJE52 that torrents would be his best answer.

Messer Wrote:SAS Buttons / Mod Activator + AAA Mods, Aviaskin Mods, C6 Mods, UltraPack etc. I really don't care which site hosted it, if it's nicely done and has value for me, I'll get it.

Honestly, I don't think a unified installer will happen. Firstly, it would be too much of a compromise and while lacking many mods it would still be enormous in size and load time. Secondly... should there be one? Yeah, sorry, I don't want to offend anyone but I'm starting to get irritated when people complain that some mod sites are messing online play - it's not the mods, it is the people who abuse them (be they kids who don't care or overly "competitive" adults).

Il-2 is an offline, stricly historical experience for many people and it's great that finally there are mods that fix awfull FM's or edit in some way (even stricly visual / 3D model) the stock aircraft and objects.

AAA (which I love, and I've been a member of for over a year) is a host of many amazing mods, but it's aimed mostly towards online. SAS is the offliner's dream. The other mod sites are something in between, I'd say. And all of them have amazing visual enhancements, great new planes, maps, objects and improvements to stock Il-2 that deserve to be used. What's so bad with that?

Again, I fully understand why some people are concerned about mods (esp. changes to stock FM) affecting online flying in a very bad way. So if there's a way to create a unified setup for all the different communities that would guarantee smooth and honest online play, yes, I fully support it. But not at the cost for us offliners to sit beside and growl with our awful FMs, poor AI and buggy looking stock planes. Deal with the people who abuse modding when flying online, not the modders themselves.

WOW! Wonderfully put. I share many of your sentiments sir! I have been here at AAA since the beginning, but I am an offliner. For years at Ubizoo I took the abuse from online crowd and purist crowd that shoved the offliners into a closet. And we put up with TERRIBLE historical inaccuracies. I have no dissrespect for AAA. There are wonderful people and modders and mods here. However, I hate it when the offliners have to take a hike AGAIN to cater to online crowd. At some point it just gets silly. Kate and Avenger FM's prove my point. I love both sites, but I really enjoy some great mods as SAS. I must say, I am a little biased, but as an offliner I don't get very moments to bask in goodness. I am really glad there is a site that caters to offline mods and gaming. It feels like we finally have a say in the comunity, at last!

Thanks for the advice guys, I'll give it some thought.

Don't get me wrong, I really do think the UI concept is a good idea, its my connection that is poor. (Anyway I would not dream of being critical after I saw what you guys did to Owl - but he was well out of order, if he was old enough to have nuts you guys would have chopped them off  - a lot of generous people can and should feel justly proud of their contributions).

I am a little nervous (probably without reason... ) about file sharing sites as I have had one serious virus attack which beat AVG and cost me a lot of my work.

Up until the point of SAS going 4.09M, I had one install using basically UI 1.1.1 plus SAS planes, buttons, etc. After SAS went 4.09M I broke down and put two installs - one AAA UI 1.2 and one SAS 4.09M. Interestingly, the UI took more time to download then implementing the SAS update to 4.09, but the SAS package took more time to implement then the UI once downloaded. All in all, both seem very happy on my hard drive.

Being mostly offline, the runtime check on servers isn't a factor to me. I still like the LAN action I am getting tho.

Both places have some very nice virtual hardware indeed, so I don't really have a favorite- they're both very cool . Big Grin

Thanks to all involved!

Cheers
