Uberdood, as far as I know, you shouldn't have a 3do folder in your STD folder.
Unless this is a new development with UI 1.2, which I don't have, the STD folder is only supposed to have a 'com' and 'i18n' folder inside, in which you find the air.ini, plane_ru.properties and weapons_ru.properties files. These are for making the entries to show the new planes.
New planes themselves are normally placed in their own folder inside Mods folder, in which you find their associated 3do folders.
Example: F84G. The F84G folder goes in Mods, and file structure would be: IL2/MODS/F84G/3do....
STD is normally only for the relevant ini/properties entries to be made for the plane to show up ingame.
Hope this explains it...

Hmmm ... I happen to have a 3do folder inside my STD folder. I remember installing it for a set of objects mods I believe.

The 3do subfolder is buildings/ToW ... and then a whole bunch of further subdirectories like watertower, telegraph_pole, sentry_box and so on .... all obviously objects ...

Of course, it doesn't have anything to do with installing aircraft, but apparently there is a mod that ended up being placed in STD/3do ...

hi agracier. Big Grin
You're right, the ToW mod instructions asked for it to be placed inside the STD folder. I still have it like that on an older install.
There's probably no harm done in having a mod with its 3do folder inside the STD folder, but I think its good practise to keep the STD folder as 'clean' as possible to avoid confusion.
I have another install where I took the ToW folders, and put them inside their own folder, just to keep the STD folder clean.
That works just as well.
It's a matter of personal choice, I suppose. I just prefer to keep the STD folder reserved for the new plane entries.

i seem to have mistaken my problem. I have no com folder. but this is still a problem concerning new aircraft. no com folder, no air.ini

Could you tell me how that is done, since i really don't know enough about these things to do it on my own ...

Ok, Uberdood, I was a little puzzled by your first post, now it makes more sense!
No com folder, no air.ini - that IS a problem!
Have you done a search for your air.ini?
What mod version are you running, because if you have no air.ini, you'll have NO planes except for the stock default ones. Also, no extra objects, such as ships, ground objects, etc, which are normally in your other ini files, which also should be in the com folder.(should be air, static at least, also possibly ships, chief and stationery ini files also sit in this folder.
I'm puzzled as to how this happened, what was your install process before you figured out the com folder was missing?
I might be able to help more, but only if you give me more details on your mod version, and how it was installed.

@ agracier, it's pretty simple to rearrange. Best option in your case, I'd create a new folder inside your Mods folder, call it TOW, or whatever you like really.
Then, just drag the entire 3do folder that is sitting in your STD folder into this new folder. That's it, done.

I agree with bigbossmalone regarding the 3do folder, this is what I did when I found that folder in the STD.

Still thinking of the reason for this, but the obvious quick-fix, if you don't have an air.ini in the com folder,
would be to download a default air.ini, which I'm sure is available somewhere here in the forums?
Then put this air.ini into a com folder that you just create yourself in the STD folder.
It needs to have the following folder structure:
MODS\STD\com\maddox\il2\objects...............the air.ini then goes inside the objects folder.
Once this is done, you can start adding new plane entries to the air.ini. That should work.
