Some Thing A Little Different...

Heya guys,

Some thing a little different for you all.

Well, I know this forum mainly revolves around WWII and historic aircraft. But, I thought I'd have a bash at an aircraft profile. But, With a twist.

This is the Imperial Guard "Vulture" From Warhammer 40,000. The original print was from Imperial Armour Volume 1: Imperial Guard and Imperial Navy. The scan came out rather, horrible. So I re outlined the lot. Took around an hour. And I tell you, my hand hurt!!!

If any one has advice, for panel shading, highlighting etc. The image was scaled down.

Hope you enjoy.

Well if you are going to build it for IL2 I suggest that all of the ships and fighters would be done, because there is nothing even close to a combat sim for 40000K
And I think there would be a lot of potential for this especialy of the numerous diferent races, vehicals and planes!!!
I''ve been waiting for so long to have the ability to fight in imperial thunderbolts against ork fightas, chaos hell talons and tau tiger sharks!!!

Hehe Ive had thoughts! I really have. But, you know. Its a WWII sim. Heck I would try and learn 3DsMax just to make a model of it. But there. I doubt many people would like it in the sim to be honest. No really peoples cup of tea Tongue

True, Hell Strikes and similar missiles like the hunter killers could be wire guided. And other missiles like rocket pods and the missile pods could be just your normal rockets. Im not sure on the hover ability. But I know one thing for sure. The normal jets can keep up with it. Its top speed is around 1100kph. The heavy bolter is similar to a 20mm HE. And the Auto Cannons around 45mm or 50mm. Just more or less guessing.

Having read, re-read, then re-read another 1000 times Double Eagle, I would love a proper WH40k Simulation, but doubt it'd have the same following as Il2 and the likes. Probably just get some piss poor console style game without proper flight models and the likes. Thunderbolts are pretty much a harrier flight model, with more responsive viff capabilities, and able to take alot of punishment, same with Hell Talons.

On a side thought, anyone tackled a paint scheme for Axis/Allied aircraft with a WH40k theme that anyone knows of?

Your right about the H/B and A/C sizes, that'd be a practical guestament.... then there's the lasconnons lol!

I'd say maybe the Strike Fighters line of games'd be better place to attempt this idea tbh, more mod friendly towards jets and helicopters and such.

I did recreate a Valkyrie skin with the Aquila wings on a Corsair? Interested? I still have the PSD. Made on Casey's Template?

Its actually really cool to see people are interesting in a form of 40k sim. Or possible mod. But as I said earlier. People wouldn't really find it suiting to the sim. The Valkyrie and Vulture are the only two which the standard jets can catch, out maneuver and shoot down. As they dont have a high top speed. Com paired to the Thunderbolt and Lighting. The Vulture has about equal fire power as the Ta-183. Possibly a bit more depending on weapon load out. Lascannons would be over kill.

But the thought, If some one was to make a model of a 40k fighter, gunship. I dont really know who would want to put into the game. And the thought of Oleg too. It will now have lasers in the game  But, the I-16 does, right? Wink

Oooh i'd love to see some Fighta's, Fighta-Bomma's and Helltalons etc. Big Grin

I even tried an IL2 Ork Fighta-Bomma skin once..

But ehmm,... not in IL2, unless someone is really willing to transform it into a WH40K version including textures and all..

:poke: :?

reminds me a bit like the Orca fighters from Tiberium sun..

In all honesty, though people complained about the idea of star wars games, it'd be great fun to include such stuff, though you're really limited by the game engine. So long as servers choose not to have those aircraft available, I can't see it being a problem. Not that it'll get made anyway, so what does it matter? Would be fun though!

Annoying the annoying, so you don't have to.

Well, You see the Imperial Armour Books contain more or less relevant info of each imperial Aircraft. Now say if we where to make a mod of it. We would need the info of the Fighta Bomba's and Hell Talons. Maybe even a Land Speeder Tempest for the Space Marines. Cause they only have the Thunderhawk, and lets face it. Thats one beefcake.

And As for the engine, There are ways around. The cockpits more or less are not a great deal advanced. Same with the weaponry. The only advance weapon would be the Lascannon. Which in term is a high strength Anti-Tank laser cannon. For those who dont know. Im more than ready to learn the ways of 3DSmax to have a bash at this. It would be rather different.

Also, here is another form of idea. Toward the case of these mods. Is that a form of switcher could be formulated. So say, you can switch from a Normal Il-2 Game, too say for instance "WH40k: AERONAUTICA IMPERIALIS" which would contain all the fighters and gunships from WH40k but without the WWII fighters etc. Im sure this could possibly be formulated. But maybe I should ask Monguse.

I'd be happily supporting this, as a huge fan of the WH40K universe..

But...

here it comes again; just be utterly careful where you stick your fingers in, because Games Workshop is really really really a pain in the rear when they even smell the slightest whiff of copyright infringement.
I've been in more then a few WH40K mods the past years (Rival Species for Halflife and Onlywar 1 & 2 for C&C Generals amongst a few), and it was always like dancing the Waltz blindfolded in a minefield; GW (Games Workshop) was always around the corner...

 more then 1 WH40K mod died because of them..

That infact is true. Though. Asking for rights and permissions first is the best thing to do! But, Even if there wasn't a response, we should give credit. As all the models where created by X modder, etc etc. But then we can still typically copyright them. And claim its not ours etc.

Any way, on the topic, some progress:

This scheme is what im planning to use on the actual model I get at Christmas hehe  Save me some money. As Im getting TrackIR for me 19th.

EDIT: Larger Picture Smile
