Iwo Jima repainted...now with "test mission"

WhiteCat Wrote:Hi redko, I've tested the map and also the vpmedia proposed changes. My comments to improve it (always constructive Smile):

- The overall feeling is great, specially from high altitude.
- In my opinion vpmedia's idea about increasing detail is very good in general. But in this particular case, for the beaches, gives them a more 'rocky' air. I would prefer less rocky beaches. Even yours are too rocky already for my taste.
Redko's beach:

Vpmedia's beach:

- Your Suribachi is much better than the original... but you have to test vpmedia's: It keeps your suribachi air but blends much better with the sorroundings, it's great!! (beaches are vpmedia's):

- The borders of some textures can be seen yet, see at the left of the picture (beaches are vpmedia's):

- I think the airstrips sorroundings should blend better with the rest, they can be seen too much.

What do you think?

I did my homework the coast is 50% rocky at least

after the landings you had traffic on those beaches too so they wont be flat but with visible tracks

It's true, well done. Definitely I'll think about this, thanks. Maybe too many constructive comments, I'll sit back and leave your amazing work progress alone.

In response to Redko's question: "and where is that map? Never heard about it, is it a wip project ?"

oops - I used the wrong name - its the Khalkin Gol map that I meant.

I just watched a show named Battle Rats: Iwo Jima on the Military Channel.
Some guys recently went to the island to show what the island is like. They showed the beaches, pillboxes, bunkers, Suribachi, caves and tunnels, and even discovered some Japanese personal items.

One interesting note is that they said the island is covered with vegetation now because during the Marine occupation they "bombed" the island with seeds to help regrow the vegetation.

If you missed the show you can probably watch it later when they rerun it.

When I searched the web for information about the battle of Iwo Jima I found this very interesting document:
http://frank.mtsu.edu/~dfrisby/kinryu.pdf
It is the diary of First Lieutenant Sugihara Kinryu from the 11th Antitank Batallion. It gives a first hand description of life on Iwo Jima before and during the battle from the Japanese perspective.

Maybe I'm the only one, but I had a problem with IL2 not starting when I pasted "Iwo_redko Iwo_redko\load.ini" in my all.ini as directed to by your instructions...

For me it had to be changed to "Iwo_redko Iwo_redko/load.ini"

Does it work now ?

I got around that by just renaming redko's maps folder like the original Iwo (after renaming the original something like '-origiwo').

Like this I could just use what ever quick missions I already had Smile

Did the same for Okinawa.

Yes, changing the the slash direction fixed it.

http://www.filefront.com/14946331/MAPMODS_IWO.ZIP
(Everything in one folder just extract to the MODS folder, easy to deactivate.)

The method is to decrease the texture to 50%, duplicate it 3 times to fill the place and then get rid some of the repeating details with the stamp tool.

Everytime I try to download your Mount Suribachi from Mediafire I get this message:
File is Unavailable.
The file you are attempting to download is not currently available on our servers or is being processed. Please try your download in a few minutes.
:-?

Is it possible to reupload your Mount Suribachi to another site?

Thanks in advance. Big Grin

Phil...the disposition of your fortifications fit PERFECT with my textures....just realised this. We are very lucky to have your campain. Do you consider it as finished or are you planing to improve it or ad some missions?
