My old PC blew-up on wich IL-2 was running (fully Modded) in XP Pro. Now i got a very fast new PC with windows 7 64-bit on it due to the 8GB RAM i have. the problem i have is the following.... once i had installed Il-2 wich didn't go easey aswell, i also installed version 4.08 and BOE so far so good. Now i wanted to see the graphics on the new PC so i clicked on the Il-2 icon and i got this windows 7 pop-up (which says unknown publicer etc.) i click OK i see the litle disc running for 15 sec. then goes away and il-2 never starts. What did i do wrong?? some help would be appriciated.

I had a similar problem when I upgraded to Windows 7. Make sure you have the game in XP compatability and adminstrator rights. Most my problems were fully resolved once I'd installed UI 1.1 & 1.2. Hope this helps.

Thanks for your response Tongue i have compatability XP service pack 2 and adminstrator rights clicked to on. but that doesn't work either. You mean i should install UI1.1 and 1.2 first and then Il-2 works again?

What a coincidence, i installed wndows 7 on my new pc yesterday and also installed il2, and i got the same problem as you. so i did the compatibility thing and admin thing, but that didnt work, luckily i found somewhere on the internet that if you move all the il2 files out of the programs folder and just leave them in the C/ drive in their own folder then it worked for me.

Try and make your own path, eg: c:/games/il-2 (don't install in programs file). Also, turn user account control off in control panel. This has worked for me before on vista Wink

The directory for games problem is a Vista problem, it is gone in Windows 7.

But with the 64bit version, there are 2 program file directories: 'Program Files' for 64bit programs and 'Program Files (x86)', for 32bit programs. I have mine in the 32bit directory and everything works fine.

You have to tell it though, if I remember correctly, IL2 1946 installs in the 'Program Files' directory (64bit) by default. So you have to edit it when you install to add the (x86) to make it the 32bit program directory. I don't think that is your problem though. :???:

Yeh, I have all my IL2 stuff in C\Games\Ubisoft\IL2. Sorry forgot to metion that, don't use the default location of C\Program Files (x86), for some reason alot of games don't like this for some reason. After I installed UI 1.1 & 1.2 it all just kicked in nicely - prior to that all I was getting was the spinning mouse icon.

Having patched up to 4.08 just try loading UI 1.1 and see if that works.

I agree. With vista, before loading the uni I had to play with the disk inserted, after installing it I didn't. Maybe that's why some of you are getting the spinning disk...? Wink

Make sure that you give admin. rights to all programs that will interface with the game or you will start to get kicked out to desk top. This will happen when the two try to interface. It does not like it when a program tries to interface with another program, unless it has admin. rights. Hyperlobby will not connect to the game as it can't find the exe. even if you type it in by hand without admin rights.

Hi all:

Okay - a very, VERY basic question: How do you give admin rights to programs. Please explain it in as much detail as possible.

Great days all.

if you have a desktop short cut icon for the program:
right click on icon,
menu opens up, then left click "properties"
click on compatability
at bottom of menu should be " [] Run as an administrator "
click on box to place a check mark in box
apply

if no short cut:
look in the program directory ( the place where the listing of the program files are , sort of looks like where the mods folder is place in the game but for different programs will look diferent,)

find program .exe such as il2.exe or hypo.exe ( may be an icon)
right click
left click compatability
look for button as above
apply

also it doesnt hurt to click on the run as an older game button too.

Thanks for all your repley's Smile i did all what you say and i still can't open il-2. So the only thing i didn't try yet was go on and see what happens if i install UI 1.1 and 1.2 over V4.09b1m.

But now windows 7 gives me the next puzzle... If i'm not mistaken (it's been a while since i did this the last time) you you install part 2 till part 8 into part 1. Now icomes the catch... in XP Pro i put the part 1 exe on my desktop and installed the other parts that were also on the desktop into part 1 (easy) but with windows 7 your downloads go automaticly into a download map. If i now do the same thing (i drag them first from the download map onto the desktop) and i want to unrar part 2 i cannot find the part 1 exe?? So how do you guys do this?? btw UI 1.2 i asume is installed in the same way?

The dreaded 'spinning disk icon then no start' problem when running IL2:1946 on Win 7 64 bit is a Securom problem. The wonderful DRM that UBI decided to infect the Euro/Asian distro of 1946 is not compatible with Win 7 64bit. I can tell you how to fix it but it is considered 'cracking' so I'll PM it to you. Note that even the Mods on the UBI forums are giving the same advice but only thru PM. See here:

http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/ ... 070116/p/9

UBI tech support is well aware of the problem but their excuse is that Win 7 is not a supported OS for the game. They then refer you to Securom's tech support. Securom denies any problem exists and refer's you back to UBI. Go figure.
