UP 1.8 vs UI 1.2
#1

I decided t open a new topic cause either everyone avoids this question or as a newbie I am way off track.

What is the real affiliation between UP 1.8 and UI 1.2:
Are there mods taken from UP 1. 8 and used in UI and vice versa?
Do I dare speak about UP 1.8 on the AAA page, I think yes.

Thinking evolution.... 4.07, 4.08, 4.09b1m, AAA and later ? too many "standards" kill the game so if the game may live it is because some standard may die. Users may choose and the rest will follow.

This is a moot topic as the two standards are being merged.
But in answer to your question, 1.8 was derived from the old AAA Mod Pack ver. .93 and added to from there. In my opinion, the sounds for UP 1.8 are much nicer than 1.1 or 1.2, but with the upcoming release of 1.2.5, that will cease as they use pretty much the same sounds. There are things that were taken out of 1.2.5 from 1.2 that are in UP 1.8. This was due to the large amount of Java errors being kicked back.

Once the three modding communities have merged into one comprehensive mod, we will all be better off. I for one, LOVE the new sounds in 1.2.5, but can't help but be enamored by UP 1.8's use of realisim mods such as AI not being able to see you through clouds and flack not hitting you as well through clouds or in the dark.

I purpose that this thread dwell on what we would like to see in the combined release of the packs versus what is different about them.

Absolutely agree with you there Jinxx. UP1.8, as I have found, is a little easier to install, because all you need to do is DL the package, exctract, copy, and thats it. With UI1.2, you need to install 1.1, then install 1.2. Painstaking operation because if one file is corrupted, you basically have to redownload the package. I personally use UP1.8, and I absolutely love the ATM(atmosphere) and MDS(moving dogfight) mods, which I often use online with some German buds in their custom Open Missions. One bad thing about 1.8 is that you can't switch your game to 4.08m version, which many servers still use.

Yes, but with the upcoming release of 1.2.5, most if not all 4.08 servers will dissapear.
I know that's what 334th and others are waiting for.

The install order will be

One of the biggest things I have found and I use HSFX-V4
is disk space used. UI1.2 takes about 16GB of space where as HSFX-V4
uses on 8.5 GB of space and loads much FASTER.

All the rest of the HSFX-V4 is nice stuff.

I spent and effort getting UP to talk to AAA, so what i say next is in NO way at all intended to be offensive in any way at all, it is just my opinion.

The way i see it is this. At the moment, like now, not later down the line if or when the two sites get together, but as it all stands now, is.....
there is a dictatorship pack and a democratic pack. in the dictatorship pack, you get what you are given and be done with it.
in the democratic pack, you decide what mods you( the end user) wants to put in.
OK, so one loads a full min quicker, but for those of us from an earlier timeline, when the PC was all DOS and a game took upto 90 mins to maybe load in, this is not an issue lol.

They are both good packs in their own rights, what i see though, is that with the AAA way of utilising mods, each author gets the thanks for the mods they make, individually and in their own thread, this gives motivation for the author and more mods are produced which is good all round, with UP, it seems that only 3 people get all the attention, thus reducing motivation to the authors.

But with that said, "both" are good packs for what they do. Hopefully, if both sites come up with 1 big pack, the issue of adding planes and maps individually will get sorted.
that is all that can be said about it really

Saburo, the biggest problem the IL-2 community is faced with about mods is the two factions. Offliners and Onliners. Onliners absolutely need standardization both by the individual and more importantly the servers. Offliners are not effected by standardization and really don't care. They just want everything regardless. This is why there have been so many different modding entities. Some cater to the offliners while others try to cater to the onliners.

no brands, but does that mean UP and SaS are participating?
I read sometimes on other forums some people dont think fondly of AAA

I have HSFX on my PC to for testing and I too am impressed with the load time. HOWEVER, I feel as Saburo; I'm not able to pick and choose some of the mods I like and dislike. I have no way of taking out the ones I don't like and putting in some of the ones I do like. The GME does not give the full instructions on just how to install a new mod you want to use. Oh, you get the "Just drop it in and move it from the left window to the right window and you're GTG. I have tried that methoad and found it does not work. I was also told by someone something about needing to update some config.ini file in order to use new mods put in the JGME folder.

My biggest concern is also who gets to decide which mods make it into the HSFX and which don't. I personally can't stand the P-47 Iron Sight mod, but because it is in an SFS file, I don't get the option of tossing it out and not using it.

I don't understand ...

if you can add mods to the stock game that is in SFS files, why can you not add mods to a mod package that's in SFS files in the same manner ? .. and override a mod you don't like ?

online play requires checksum consistancy, and the mod groups offering packages intended for online play should get on the same page .. right now my squad is running 4.09m unmodded because of numerous problems with UI 1.2, not to mention it's long load times ..

so we wait for a stable 4.09m + mods package that server opps can consider *standard* with a good switcher for 409m with or without mods, and Zuti on/off .. only then will 408m and 409b1m fade away and we'll have the vast majority of servers running games we can ALL join

I cant seem to fathem playing il2 without ui 1.2, regardless of the wait time but I agree what was said, not like the old days where you can pick and choose a mod as Saburo said.

The stock game is not in sfs files this was if i am correct developed by the 242nd squardron CharlieChap, and it is focused on Scortched Earth Online War. The sfs files are not like the old mods folder where you can drop in or remove or disable any mod you want. I believe that this was to ensure that everyone flying SEOW would be compatable and no chance of any rouge mods giving one an unfair advantage. It seems as this is going to be the standard for all the major Modpacks UP1.8, HSFX , and when released UI 1.2.5. I think this is great if everyone is going to be flying SEOW but for those of us who do not then we will be left with a modded game that is unmodable except for those who release the updates to the modpacks listed above.
Myself I plan to stick with UI 1.2 and mod my own game with the mods that i want to fly.
