3DS Max Models
#1

Dear simmers

I'm quite new to this community but I would like to participate somewhat in IL-2 Modding. Personally I don't have the slightest idea about 3D modeling but I know someone who has some skills & even some complete models in 3DS Max. He can provide me with complete 3DS Max Models - someone can modify them freely if he wants to - but one condition - NO MONEY CAN BE CHARGED FOR HIS MODELS. The problem is that the rest of the work isn't done - damage model, textures, FM etc. So my question is: is someone interested in finishing work when I provide you with such 3DS Max model? - he has some already done i.e. PZL p.37 Los, Potez 693 (and much more but they are already part of IL-2 1946 or are included in MODS).

If you want the Aviator Mod Team will look at it. If the model is correct then we can help you and import it etc and do the rest, but it won't be out anytime soon just so you know these things will take quite a while especially as we have lots of other projects going on at the same time. How many polys is the model etc?

If you or your friend can work in 3D - why not try out making some objects first? For instance houses and buildings that go with specific geographical areas?

There is an absence of good buildings to go with maps of Spain and the Mediterranean countries for instance, also for Far Eastern countries such as China. Nor are there any of those drab looking appartment blocks built in the USSR or in Italy before the war. Nor good buildings for North Africa either - we have some Egyptian buildings, but these are rural habitations, nothing for a city like Alexandria or Cairo or Beirut etc ...

And trees are always in short supply - they may not be sexy and exciting, but having a variety of trees in shape and coloring for a map can go a long way to creating a good atmosphere in-game.

You'd be providing some much needed objects for the game and even though I have no inkling how to make a 3D object (tried, but no dice) I have read that it is much simpler than making an aircraft ...

I am aware that there are some rules when you make model for IL-2 - polys etc. And how many polys there should be?

Ok, that's a bit higher than most but ok. still within 30,000 polygon limit.
