In particular I refer to the totally incorrect propeller visual effect.

In real propeller driven aircraft the pilot, or anyone on board for that matter, cannot see the blurred blades as they rotate. And it's quite hard to see the prop disk at all, even with yellow painted tips.

Why most people want this is because it is what they see at the cinema. This is because of the interaction of the rotating shutter of the camera and the rotating propeller. In other words, it's a cheap cinematic effect and is not the reality of it.

At least give us the ability to selectively shut it off, which would allow those that like it to keep it.

Also the ability to selectively shut off the dust trails on takeoff and the dust and or splash from bullets hitting the ground/water would be helpful. The bullet dust in particular is a huge frame rate killer.

Mmm.. I have read accounts on how pilots used to sync their propeller to their leader visualy by watching his prop. One in particular after an rpm guage went in/op, the pilot simply watched his boss's propeller..

Ever flown in a real WW2 aircraft? Or in any prop aircraft in the front seat?

I have.

The props look nothing like the effect in the current HSFX version.

IRL the light has to be just right and you really have to squint/concentrate on it to see any little part of a prop blade. It is not at all like the Holleywood in game effect we currently have.

All that is necessary is a selection in JSGME to remove it for those of us who want the extra bit of realism.

You are both spot on, the pilot would look thru his prop spin, line it up with the lead plane, that way both are visible, but to actually see the prop by itself is hard to do, unless the sun or some kinda anomaly.

an option to turn it off would be ok. however, while not as visible as in game (it IS a game after all and naturally not perfect) you 'can' see the propeller in the front seat of a WW2 plane/ or any prop plane. it's not like in the game, true, but it's there. it does depend on the surrounding air/light to a large degree but it's not like it's one hundred percent invisible either. even when it's not showing much at all there's still a sort of perceptible 'blur' and disturbance that is faintly visible to the eye and lets you know that 'something' is going on up there.

how do 'i' know? well, though i no longer fly, i was a pilot for many years. (shrugs)

but as you say, an option to turn it off wouldn't be a big deal if someone wants to and has the time to make the off/on switch.

Yes, I've been flying prop aircraft for quite a few years now thanks, but then again, what do I know? lol
