A lot of work has gone into this to add a sense of realism. Tweaks still continue, here's a small video clip of the new effect that the AAA modders are working on. Enjoy, cheers, M.

i personally think that the front end should drop sharply once they are released, but i have no proof.

this is true, they didn't really ever just fall down....they'd start violently tumbling forward (nose down) immediately after release. there is classic footage of a formation of mustangs releasing drop tanks and it shows this. can't find the video in and of itself anywhere tho. have to scour the hours of footage out there for it.

When the tanks contain fuel they are heavy and subsequently tumble forwards, as do tanks loaded with napalm...fear not Padawans...this is also a feature Wink

Cheers, MP.

Brilliant!
Is there any way to make the fuel tanks explode or catch fire if hit by bullets? That was a common sight on guncamera footage.

Great idea. I'm not criticing the work done so far, but to me the tumbling of the tanks does not look right. Do we have any RL footage to compare?

As a matter of fact that is only one of the items our team ( Bury, Wolf, Monguse, Hawk, Howlin ) has been working on. For more see:

As for footage to tanks dropping the answer is yes we have You Tube footage of napalm. For the 20 lb frag and their dispersal I have loads of photos.

This is a WIP and is just the beginning.

Here is the tank drop 2:13 into the film

there's a very famous video of mustangs dropping their drop tanks and they tumble away, the reason simply being that they have no stabilizing fins on the back. Same happened with napalm tanks until the introduction of streamlined and fin fitted ones, for more accurate bombing (but we're talking about Vietnam era).
Here's an example of the Vietnam era ones before they introduced the version with fins
