Newbie Help
#1

Hi all,

I am new to this community so first of all I would like to say Hi. Second I wish to mod my IL-2 (have latest patch installed 4.09m). I just don't know where to start. I have checked the forums but I cant find any "Beginners Guide". I have modded my current install but this is just skins and new campaigns etc manual install. Thanks for any help in advance.

Note: I am currently downloading a mod pack called Ultrapack v2 from http://il2ultrapack.net46.net/ Is this good?

Welcome to the world of IL2 modding Rhumba! Smile Ultra Pack is a good mod pack to begin with. However there are also two other great mod packs to chose from. There is also HSFX 4.1 (which requires HSFX 4.0), and our very own UI 1.2 (requires UI 1.1). Once you have chosen your mod pack, run its automatic installer and that's it! However, that's not the end of you IL2 modding career. New mods appear almost daily, so after installing you're mod pack and made sure that it works I rcommd taking a good look at AAA and other forums (sas1946.com in particular) to see what you like.

Happy modding,

Welcome to the AAA web site. As to if UP 2.0 is any good.
That is a good question! However IMHO you would better
useing the HSFX 4.1. First HSFX 4.1 is kinda of easier to
install and use. With HSFX 4.1 you can Trust the Integrity
of the FM/DM. As with UP 2.0 they have admitted that they
have changed the FM/DM in some of their Planes. In which
I personally question their Integrity.
Secondly you find 38 mods in their JSGME folder, I wonder
why they need 38 different mods, in which most are incomparable
with each other. Where as in HSFX 4.1 there is only 19 mods in
the JSGME, I found most are comparable with each other.
However both have bugs in them, which is not unusal when new
patches come out.
I have both and tried them both and found that HSFX 4.1 is a better
all around Mod Pack. UP 2.0 however has more bugs in it then HSFX 4.1.
Remember this is MHO.

Thanks for the feedback. So the best course of action would be (if i want to use the mods from this community forums etc):

1. Download UI 1.1

2. Install UI 1.1

2. Download UI 1.2

3. Install UI 1.2

4. Once this is done I can just download the mods I would like to use and then use the UI 1.2 to active them

Is that correct?

You can use mods from AAA and other sites with whatever mod pack you choose. A mod pack is jut a starter pack of mods. I would personally choose HSFX 4.1 over UI 1.2 because HSFX has several unique mods (like the Fairey Fulmar) that are not included in UI 1.2 and as DBG_Kabayo said, you can trust HSFX's FM's.

If you have the 4.09m patch installed, then you can't use U.I. 1.1 or 1.2. They are not compatible with 4.09m
I suggest you choose either UP or HSFX. You can add mods to either one.

As far as whose FMs you can "trust"...well, you can wade throught this thread here:

viewtopic.php?t=24379&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=180

and decide for yourself if it is anything you need to be concerned about.

UI is out dated so to say. If you want most of the mods from AAA they are in the
new HSFX 4.1.
There are many post as where to get the HSFX and how to install said package.

UI 1.2 is dead compared to HSFX and UP.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the awsome feedback. I guess HSFX it is then =). UP is halfway done downloading so I might as well keep it going and try it, so I will try that out first and then try out HSFX all on seperate installs of the game of course (you can never be to careful).
