Say Pete, instead of one of my textures "recycled" if you will, how about a brand new one? Did this today.

I know it looks something like the seaweed one but its different. I was just think your map deserves a new one just for it.
What do you think?

That's gorgeous, you need to stop paddling in the shallows though me thinks and have a go on land.

You seem to have a natural talent for textures so should expand into the wider world.

Glad you like it. I dont know about doing land textures though, paddling in the shallows is what I do here in Texas in the summer. Go to the lake and marinade in the water with a beer all day. :drinking: I may just have to try though I've been getting prune skined latley. Confusedhock:

As you can see a little detail has been added, hangers from HANGER MOD 2 by Develpier,
there's also a bridge from the Bridge Mod from the same source.

I wasn't quite sure how to create the tree effect so borrowed the wood lines from
Avala's Bengali map, hope he doesn't mind.

I would just like to say thanks to all members of the community who continue to send me
links to skins and Vietnam info, I appreciate it guys.

Hello again, hope you're all having a great start to the New Year. Here is an update of progress so far for those who have been watching progress and contributing.

First up I must appologise to anyone who downloaded the last update and found the rivers to be unusable in places,
I had made a change and must have done something wrong when updating the ed_map_t.tga, only noticed this week.

A new one will be in the next upload, for now using the November ed_map_t should make things right, I hope.

I've been manually adding roads to the map, I found just painting them on meant they ended up in all sorts of
strange places. I have more control this way and can adjust the terrain as I go.

This is along one of the rivers. I've added trees along the route to hopefully give a little depth, a sort of buffer
between the hills further back. I think it looks better than just seeing the textures. This was the reason for adding
them around the airfields, it gave you something to look at.

I added bridges but unfortunately they don't work, so I've run highways along the river courses to help you get
around.

Even if you could get the AI vehicles on the bridge the step you see here would make it useless, not sure if there is a work around for the bridge problem so for now we are stuck with it.

If you have the Jeep and wish to drive the map you can either do it in stages bridge to bridge in seperate missions or drive all the way around. I've had to test the roads haven't I. Sad So if you're as sad as me be warned, it's a very lllloooonnnngggg drive.

I've now finished the effect I wanted along the river banks and along the coast, one less task to finish.

This is the only thing I could find to show the entrance to to the airfields, we could do
with a few sign posts, anyone fancy making some. :?:

I've also added some textures along the way, these are sk textures I've used to show rock on very
steep cliff faces.

I will post the update in the next few days for anyone who would like to try it out.

Look forward to your comments on things so far.

Hello Mark, glad you like the progress so far, it feels like I'll be forever finishing this.

I need to do some serious research now, I'm going to do a limited road network so hopefully I can put that to bed soon, ish and make a start on making this a little more detailed. I badly need info on airfields in the region, especially how they were laid out. I could do with actual aerial photos to give me a clue on what to include. The French and Japanese must have built their airfields to a particular pattern, and it is their period of time it primarily was aimed at, if anyone could point me in the direction of books containing such info it would help considerably. Information on the airfields the Americans used is probably more readily available, as is the position of current airfields, unfortunately the only real info I have is on the approximate position of WWII airfields. They are now fields or built up areas. Sad How the towns, villages and Cities looked is also a major area of concern.

I need to find a member of the community who has a vast library of material for the region.

Anyway I've still quite a lot of road to lay and test so hopefully info may be forthcoming while I do that.

Wishing you all the very best, Pete. Big Grin

Been playing around with the ed_m01 and ed_m02 files, which would you use if
you had a choice :?:

This was an attempt to make it look like an old map.

And this is what you're more used to in colour.

MrOblongo Wrote:French Period would be great!

Spitfires, Bearcats, Toucans (Ju52), Criquets (Storchs), Ki43 (Frenchs) and so...very weird combination of aircrafts. Bad thing is that would be mostly air-to-ground scenarios.

Whats wrong with Mouving Mud?

AND so many interestings What If scenarios!!!

Hello Mark and Anatoli, I'm with you on the old look. The only problem with it is it shows the in game features in colour which rather detracts from the effect

Sorry to say Anatoli these are not in the January update, I was only working on them yesterday.

Baco1170, you're right about it offering some interesting what ifs, but in the real arena mud moving was the staple diet of the colonial airmen. Trouble is I usually move the mud with my aircraft, usually while I'm sat in it .
