Mig-15 guns.......

Now I don't know so why I'm asking.......Yet I was under the impression that the mig-15 guns fired independantly not all at once. Can anyone confirm how they fired?

According to an interview I read with a Russian MiG-15 pilot, the guns were independent. The 23mms fired from one trigger and the 37mm fired from a second trigger.

I can't find an exact information on MiG-15, but there were two types of gun-control system on MiG-17 - two-buttons and one-button system. But flying even a plane equipped with one-button gun control system, the pilot could switch on a safety-locker for "unncecessary" cannon and fire separately from 37mm or 23mm.

I would really like to fire those cannons separately because the recoil of big cannon shakes the plane all over, and I can't hit small fighters. In previous version I could hit fighters well shooting only with smaller cannons, and saves the heavy rounds for bigger targets.

I think the following was in the series of "Great Planes" but I'm not 100% sure.

A Sabre pilot said, that when a MiG-15 fired at him from behind, he could separate the 37mm tracers from the 23mm ones. The 37mm rounds looked like glowing golf balls. The trajectory was very different of the two type of rounds. They literally fly around the Sabre's fuselage. The 37mm ones on one side, the 23mm ones on the other.

That explains the accuracy of that weapon system of the MiG-15 (it wasn't very accurate, as far as I know). I think it would be a very wrong decision to put both - very different shooting characteristic guns - on the same trigger button. Anyway, the whole weapon bay, including the 3gun group with the ammo boxes could be changed at the same time. It saved a lot of time, but I think the guns weren't so stable as the more fixed ones of other aircrafts.

With UI 1.2 the MiG-15 has separate fire. In the HSFX 4.1 the MiG-15 -15bis and -17 the cannos firing altogether. I mean at me, of course, I don't know anyone experienced something different. I have two different IL2 Sturmovik on my computer. Maybe I will have a 3rd one, with the UP mod.

Why I'm asking in thay most now are running HSFX &/or UP.....In UP all the guns fire at the same time. So an issue then if they did fire independantly.

If you don't like it, paste a Mig-15 folder from the version you do like into the MODS folder to bypass the class files you don't want loaded from the compressed folders.

But it would be great for someone to say which files in particular...

Whether I like it or not is not the point is it?.....However, since you have not grasped what the point is I'll take a moment and explain it to you. Quite simply an aircraft model was built with the intention I'd suspect of being as historically accurate as is possible. Great pains went into making the model and digital artwork, yet once said and done there is the most simple of errors that most likely will take the most minimal of code to correct.

Now that's easy for me to say, yet is not doing it. In kind it is easy for the model builder to make the model so much going into it and miss the most minor things....What is not easy is always catching them considering how much most likely goes into making one of these aircraft.

Hence....

I'm simply seeing if:
1. there is an error....
2. if so and not having been mentioned simply pointing out so the model builders work can be as accurate as the obvious effort he has put into the rest of it.

Past that you may feel free to NOT download any correction.

BillFish have you tried contacting PeterD at his site about this? He might be able to fix this for HSFX4.2.

I think you fail to grasp that I was saying a fix probably already exists. You can fix it yourself in seconds if you prefer independent fire (which people here say is correct), and since PeterD had independent fire all along, I'm guessing it was changed by the HSFX or UP crew, possibly on purpose. And HSFX crew said they are not going to update for months.

Now, it woud be nice to know exactly which file(s) from the origional PeterD pack will get the independent guns back, but untill then, you can install the entire PeterD mod pack and over-ride the SFS files. Problem solved.

Having all guns on one trigger is historical, however it would be nice if the earlier version didn't have this feature...which is also historical

Well that first statement makes it sound like a "factory change" which would surprise me and after reading over the link it unfortunately proves out to be the webauthors words....The second sounds more like an actual interview, and the wording makes it clear at least to me that such a configuration was a "field modification" so not how they were built....

Now like most of our aircraft here, to make this "fix" to be correct doesn't mean losing the "all guns" feature yet simply the lack of individual fire.

As to simply fixing it on an individual basis on my own system, well that won't fly in that then I'd be using a different mod then others online, and that's if I could even get in the server...........It needs to be an across the board fix. Not some hack.

It does sound like a field modification aye, in which case - did all airforces that used these aircraft make this modification and if not how common was it?

Perhaps the ideal would be to have the two configurations in the loadout options, let each player decide or alternatively online the server could restrict the loadout options depending on the theatre of Op's or scenario the map is trying to represent.

It's not easy finding information on this aspect of the Mig-15 though.
