Die Glocke? (The Bell)
#1

I just saw a show about the secret german project called Die Glocke. It was a project to create a UFO-like aircraft, that levitated, and is unlike anything we know today. Would there be any modders out there that are willing to tackle this project? It did not have conventional flight characteristics, and there isn't any evidence that it even worked, but it would be fun to fly this in game. As I am unsure how to add pictures, I will give links to a serise of videos (roughly 45 minutes total) that give information on the creation of the aircraft, and has images of it that can be used for referance.[/quote]

well, I doubt that a UFO aircraft (a literal one this time) would be handled correctly by the game engine, and plus, Isn't there some doubt it was even intended to be a levitating craft?

Also, like several other ideas, Its likely the idea, while sound, would require materials or other beyond what the germans had, not unlike their ideas for an "electric gun", which we would now call a rail-gun, which they lacked the materials to make even as effective as a typical gunpowder weapon.

I'd give that a big fat no. I don't think there's ever been any UFO support from modders, save for a few unfinished projects by Slow.

European snake: +5

This sim was originally intended to be a forgotten battles WWII easternfront propplane sim
covering the airwar between the VVS and the LW... and I hope it will be mainly THAT,
as that is what makes this sim interesting from the early days to this present day.
I like all the add ons we have had over time like the horten go 229 and the rocketplanes and all
but UFO's... No. If one likes UFO's go play star wars I suggest.
Just my 2 cents.

Indeed , where would it end ? Nazi moon base or Antartica map.? Modders throw away their flight manuals and turn to the National Enquirer for data?

I do note that there is a part of conspiracy theory that mentions interaction between UFO's and a German scientist in the 1930's, but although it's been a while since I read that stuff (I've still got it somewhere, might be fun to try and find it again) I seem to remember the Nazi's weren't involved. Personally I think the whole thing was hogwash, but there you go.

As it is sometimes amazing how far crazy can go!

I'm new here so this probably doesn't count for much, but I don't think that it would make for much of a contribution. It is far better to stick to what we know instead of guessing at what is simply an idea.

What I doubt most of you understand, however, is this isn't fiction. It is known that Die Glocke was worked on, but it is doubted it was ever finished. This aircraft is pretty much a more akward looking Go-229, Ta-183, or any of the other '46 planes. It is not some alien spacecraft that the germans supposedly used, and is not entirely science fiction.
