Problem with new ships and armour (only stationary)
#1

Good morning everyone,
I have posted similar threads before and got no working answer, so I thought I give it a (new) try.
The problem I face relates to all new ships (including ship pack 2 and new additions here and at SAS) and new armour (specifically, the French and Italian tanks pack). I can only use all of them as stationary (ships, ship pack, armour) and not as moving. I went through all threads, copiously examined my chief, ship, stationary, technics.ini and technics.ru files, compared them to the default ones, could not find any diference. I know that people faced the problem (this time, the stationanry ships did not appear in FMB) in the past.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks,

I've never added moving objects, but, don't you have to edit some of those files to add new moving objects?

Yes, so I did. Sorry, this was not clear in my previous post. All necessary lines added to all files and checked.

Then, what is the location of the edited files, and are you certain they are located where the game will use them versus another unedited copy in another location?

Sorry, this is all I can offer in my utter ignorance of adding new moving objects.

I can only comment on the ships.

You must add text to the chief.ini, ships.ini, technics.ini, technics_ru.properties as noted in the installation instructions.

If your ini and properties files are the same as the default ones then you have not completed the installation.

For an HSFX installation you should have the default files in root/files --- you should never edit these.
and your edited ini/properties files in root/MODS/STD..... --- if they are not here copy the required files from root/files

---- keep the correct subfolder structure at those locations.

So I did. All relevant lines were properly added to the relevant files. I compared my own files with the .ini and .ru files of other members who had made the same additions (including yours if I recall correctly) and I can't find any problem. Yet I only get the ships as stationary. Cry

To 8FS Bullau: The location is Mods/STD/com/maddox/il2/objects and i18n

I suggest a search of the Mods folder, and all subfolders, for all of the .ini filenames that have been mentioned. Maybe there is a duplicate somewhere in there which is conflicting.

Search complete. Found no duplicate .ini files

Hmm. Well, I installed the HMS Matabele, just to get my feet wet, and it worked fine as moving ship.

Since you seem to be having this problem with everything you add, I doubt that it is a simple editing error, unless you are making the same mistake every time. It must be something more...fundamental.

Your files are located correctly, there are no duplicates to supercede them, so it *should* be working.

What Mod Activator do you use?

What about your O/S? Do you use Windows7 or Vista? I don't, but I understand those O/S sometimes copy certain files to another location.

I ran a SAS mod-activated game. My game is stored in C/, not in program files. My OS is W7

I'm running XP SP3, and installed the Matabele to UP 2.01. The mod activator really should not matter, as they all work fundamentally the same way. O/S is different but you have installed outside of Program Files.

If you are amenable, I will make separate SAS Modact install to duplicate the process. Just choose one object that you have installed (not ShipPack 2...something small, ship or armour), show me where I can download it, and I will install it.

Either I will duplicate the problem or we may identify something you missed.
Or it is something to do with Win7.

Many thanks! The Matabele would be fine; I've also installed it and have it only as stationary in FMB

Hello cgagan,

I' had the same problem, and found doubles of the ships.ini and technics.ini in the following mod:
00_A_Uranium_Edition_New_Effects_V1_Bomb_Bay_Door_Compatible_November_26_2009
After removing these .ini files, Matabele is sinally steaming.
Thank you 8FS_Bulau for this tip

Thanks for the tip, but I am using the Plutonium effects mod by Potenz and Holygrail. I found no dopuble entries in my ships.ini and technics.ini files

Don't think he meant double *entries*, but rather, duplicate .ini *files*, which I had you search MODS folder for. Now seeing Uberammergau post, I think you should do a search of the jsgmemods folder also (or whatever the equivalent folder is named in SAS structure) for duplicate .ini file. That is currently my #1 suspect, and it did not occur to me that there might be some in JSGME mods.

Saw your post at SAS about game not even starting up. Is that resolved?
