Hi, refugee

Yeah, man, it sounds bad. Before you reinstall everything, hang tight. Did you apply the Career English Language Fix available here at AAA? I think that you fouled your sim too much to recover it, but if you try the fix and ask for help in the topic by posting there, you can be sure to learn things that will help you later. May be a miracle will happen for you.

Things must be done in the exact order as prescribed in the instructions, of course. If you have the digital download version of IL-2, then you need to apply a special patch for that before you add anything else over the stock IL-2.

Keep at least one copy of everything that you feel is important enough to have a copy in case something such as this happens in the future. Remember, too, that the best is yet to come. Smile

Since it seems that this is what you want to do, then I say try it. The worst that can happen is that you get more familiar with what things are and where they are-perhaps realize a few new things.

I am a skeptic about fixing big messes in an easy way. You might need to activate mods. The correct version might not be activated in the switcher. Man, there are several possibilities. From where we sit-miles from you, it's difficult to know.

Please, if you find a solution short of reinstalling everthing, let us know, okay?

The arming file might not be easily accessible and it might be encoded. You would need a special program to open some files. This is all likely the case. I have never touched any of that coded and locked file stuff.

Arming might be accessible, but I don't even remember where it is.

Paint job switching and modding is quite easy once you learn it. The paint skins are in the skins folder, which you can search using the Search box at the top of every Window of Windows Operating Systems. However, if you dig into the files, you should find them. Are they in the Samples folder?. May be so, if my memory serves me right. There is a special Forum here for skins.

I do all my experimenting on a working copy. A working copy is one that you can afford to lose if something goes drastically and irreversibly wrong. In this case, that may have happened. Yours is a working copy, by accident. Yes, here's your opportunity to have an adventure into the files and learn some skills from this.

Forever keep copies of everything that you do not want to lose.

By the way, I know someone who is much more experienced and knowledgeable about files. I feel there is a good possibility that he knows about the arming file. I'll ask him if he has the time right now to help you here. He is a very busy person. He might get to it today.

HELLO Big Grin I sure hope you can help me ? It's been awhile sence all this happend & i can't remember the exact mod it was but i do know i went in and removed it checking for any little files & extra's it might of left behind. Sad I've worked my way in & out of many a probelm but this is a new one thought i had messed up just about everything i could but it looks like i've found one i missed !   "WELL DOC" do ya think it can be saved ? or is it a lost cause ? Oh, no, I really have no special insight into the inner workings of this sim. I just read a lot of posts on the forum by people having problems, and take note of the fixes that work.

I have no clue about this one. If you can't recall the Mod you installed right before this started to happen, then it's pretty much impossible to diagnose or come up with a fix. If you have a backup of your working install on another HD, why don't you just replace the pooched one with the backup? Seems like a no-brainer, unless I'm missing something.

If the other copy is not a backup, but another game install, then you could try just replacing your entire Users folder, DCG folder, and conf.ini with ones from the other game install.

If you still have your U.I. 1.0 install files, then backup your air.ini, buttons, static.ini, technics.ini, ships.ini and try reinstalling that overtop, then but the backed up buttons and .ini files in. If that does not work, then you'll have to reinstall, which will take less time than it will to try to fix this.
