C-47 gunships were used until the vietnam war. It would not hit the limits of the sim, because the top speed of this plane is 140mph.

Ok, this was post korea, BUT, the soccar war was fought with..........WWII relics!!! Both sides flew F4U-4 corsairs and the Hondurans also flew P-51 mustangs. This was the last time in history where piston engined fighters squared off against each other. Now the time range may be out of the question, but the truth is that this is right down IL2's alley. Piston engine fighters in combat with each other is the name of the game right? There were kills scored by both sides, I really think this could lead to some good ideas!!!

Yup good idea, don't let these guys bash ya too much, because for "Some Odd Reason" if you mention anything post Korea- pre-Vietnam Era here, people just GO NUTS..
Instead of realizing IL2 is very capable at modelling some of the low n slow' late model planes. Heck they could have a Huey Gunship for IL2 if more people would get into modding, which I've been trying to learn for the past year but still unsuccessful due to lack of time. Most people seem to be more worried about whether their favorite WW1, WW2 ,and now Korea War Era planes will be included in IL2 before that new version comes out, but in a way thats kind of understandable.

You'd have to make the side gunners ONLY controllable by the pilot using a gunsight to the left like the real plane had.
It would be devistating to use on an airfield for suppression and a very welcome addition for the on-line war map I've been working on.

Though I fly through the valley of death, I will fear no evil.....

It would be shot down and destroyed by airfield flak, and rightfully so. Spookies didn't fly during the day or when enemy AAA was around for a very good reason, but it would still be fun to see. Smile

edit: uh-oh BBury. What have you done...? lol!

The C-47 was used as an aerial gunship during the Vietnam War era in South East Asia and was commonly known as "Puff The Magic Dragon".
