IL2 works great on win7 64bit. be sure to set it to run in XP compatibility mode SP3 with administrator access.

The UI packs were rolled up into HSFX with the latest revision of HSFX which is 4.1. There is another pack called UP which includes HSFX and allows you to turn it on and off or even switch back to a stock 4.09 config using JSGME. You can get more info on UP over at http://ultrapack.il2war.com/index.php.

Some folks prefer HSFX, some prefer UP because it includes HSFX and a little more. Its all semantics. I personally run UP for both online and offline play and use JSGME to reconfigure my game depending on the situation. The downside, is that its a large install. The upside is that its available via torrent.

I'm aware of the addon packs you mentioned but don't have any first hand knowledge of how to integrate them in a UP or HSFX install so I won't speculate there. I will say that there are tons of campaigns and individual missions available for download over at mission4today and elsewhere for free that will keep you busy for a long time. BOB has been done to death.

since i never fly online and never will again, UP is no option i have still the all downloads for the UI versions and HSFX version. I was just wondering if the UI is abanded period now or that there will be new versions. I ask this because i can get the UI to work even with the payed add-ons i have, but HSFX... i can't make that work at all. I don't understand why it must so friggin' hard to install, it seems not difficult but i installed and deinstalled it now like 7 times so it ain't easy at all.

I just want to play my game like i did when there was just the UI 1.0 +1.2 to choose from. Nowadays it's so complicated to even install the game i lost hope i van ever play again. BTW how can i can i install the UI and play and i can't with HSFX? something isn't correct it seems am i the only one where HSFX CTD wenn loading a mission?

With the upgrade to HSFX. This works but only like this.
You much make a clean install. Make sure nothing is left in the game folder. ALL GONE.
Install from the disk 4.07m.
Next 4.08m patch
Next 4.09m patch
Next HSFX V 4.0 there are two parts. Start the first and the second starts automatic
Next HSFX V 4.1
With HSFX make darn sure the game PATH is correct.
At times it will trys to write a second install called "FORGOTTEN BATTLES" if it does that it is not correct.

After EACH patch or install CHECK to see your game works.

yeah i did all that excatly on top of that i installed BOE and Ostfront and over those installed 785_EnjoyrPatch_forBoE+Ostfront_v5.1 and then i changed the button into the last one availeble.
The only thing i didn't do was check after every step if it still worked. But it couldn't be the wrong path thing because i had the HSFX startscreen with right version in it and i could make a career i even could select planeskin. loadout and pilotskin but i crash after that wenn hit the start button for the mission, i get no error message whatsoever just a CTD.

but i will try it for the 8th time if it works but since i have no idea what went/i did wrong i'm not keeping my hopes up. I will how it went after i did the new reinstall. Oh and yes it was everytime on a total clean PC i cleared up all old files before i did any install.

Hi,

Guys-here I go again, throwing my humble two cents worth into it.

The core of the IL-2 Society leaders agreed that HSFX 4.1 would be the standard for online flying, which it is. It also allows easy adding of mods. One could load it with many more mods, but that would defeat one of the advantages-HSFX 4.1 has a fast load time-good for online flyers.

If you will only be flying offine-and it sounds like that is the case-then you can add any mod and any number of mods, no problem. Now here is the key point: How much collecting of mods will you do?

If you only want to try a mod pack and maybe add a mod or two, then HSFX 4.1 is all you need. If you want many mods, then I recommend UltraPack 2.0, 3.0, or the UI ( UI 1.1 + UI 1.2 ).

On a final note: The UI is still alive for offline flying and collecting of mods. Also, a few guys have not been able to get any other mod pack for various reasons. There is nothing wrong with using the UI, especially if you make an informed decision.

However, with all this having been written, I feel that you will get hooked, so to speak and eventually want more.

Hello Fireskull,

well i fly offline only gave up online a few years ago Smile well in short here is why i choose for HSFX before over the UI. i was using the UI 1.1 + 1.2 but i could never use the 4.09 official patch(and i want that very much). That's the reason i changed to HSFX and the fact i hear from AAA moderators and modders there won't be a new UI version made againand it's not compatible with the 4.09 patch, so i figured it's a dying version. So i changed to HSFX and that actually worked once. then i did something wrong with a MOD install so unisnstalled all also checked register etc. now i can't get it to work again. Like i say before it installs corect, it opens corect (screen and version), i can choose a career, i can select the plane, the plane skin, the pilotskin, everyting but then it goes bad. once i click the buton to start the mission it CTD. Now if ithat is because i use a lot of MODS and payed add-ons i dunno. All i know is UI is not realy an option because it will not be supported any longer. All i want is fly offline with all the MODs ever possible and add-ons (i have ostfront and BOE but plan to buy more). So which version should i use? I don't realy know the UP? but i think that is for online flying no?

S!

Well, the HSFX 4.1 comes with almost all of what you wrote here, plus it will give you some nice surprises. Adding mods has become easier, and managing them is better than ever with the JSGME switcher included in the 4.1

I recommend HSFX 4.1 for you. Smile

Keep copy of all your mods so you can add them to the HSFX 4.1 As a matter of fact, you should keep copy of everything that you feel must not be lost.

I am sure that you will be thrilled with the 4.1!

Okay, my next advice is to go to the trouble shooting/problems topic in this forum. Guys like 8thFS_Bulau know literally 100 times more than me about the inner workings of IL-2. As a matter of fact, if you post for help in the appropriate Topic, it is likely that he will notice it. He is in the Forums almost everyday looking to help guys in situations such as yours. You may even want to Private Message him as a last resort, but then other guys would not benefit from following the conversation.

Post for help, and you will get it. Big Grin
