Coastal artillery
#1

Hi all,

I wondered how difficult it would be to model some coastal artillery that could be implemented in existing bunker objects?
I'm thinking of such guns :

I hope you may understand Wink

If you had done a search for coastal artillery you would have found thats its been requested before but it shows it has little or no interes by the people whom are able to make theese for the game.
It should be quite easy to do also. but i just have to guess that most modders in this game live fare away from the coast and might never have seen the ocean.

Also a sub pen had been nice to have, but same to this it lays by the coast!Smile

There are by the way made a few coastal guns at least for the UP. but theese have a rediciouse range of only 6000 meters. This when the german batteries in france shelled dover that was over 33000 meters away.
max range was 42000 meters for theese guns.

HSFX already has it.

They're not new purpose-built objects, rather cloned bunkers with increased range and hitting power. Very effective though; one sank a cruiser that thought it was safe in one of the SEOW campaigns.

The range has been deliberately reduced for use in SEOW in order to stop them destroying everything on the map. Don't forget that once artillery starts firing in Il-2 it won't stop while there is a target in range. They act as a deterrent as much as anything, although enemy aircraft will have to take them out before troops can land.

The mechanics of making coastal artillery for the game are the same as for making a stationary ship.
If you put any existing stationary ship on dry land you will see what I mean.

The problem is not that most modders live away from the coast (that would apply to me) but that most are already busy with other projects.

Always worth making suggestions though, but best to back it up with illustrations and technical details.

hmm... this may be a good idea for a project... must investigate further...

Yes, I guess it's a good idea for Pacific or Normandy/Italy/North Africa campaigns.
I will have a look on the forum anyway

Hahaha
I hope some also saw i was a lill ironic here on my answer.

The range of boats are alot higher, if no problem on the boat then why is this a problem on land??
I should think there is a way to make the big coastal guns not to shoot in all directions by simply redusing its amount of trevers(hope that was right). This so they shoot out to sea and let say a 45 degree angle from side to side or less. depending on type ofcourse.

Several did complaint before that coastal artillery if in game would ruin the map if it had to long range and therefore also ruin the maps they have buildt.
Here it should be possible to set range and again limitied trevers would stopp it, but weird enough they dont seem to have any problem with the boats shooting all over the map...

I guess one of the major reasons for the lack of coastal fortifications in game is due to the fact it was made for inland russian ww2 and not for the coastal europa and other coastal countries around the world.

And i have tested thoose 15 inch wannabies coastal guns in the game. Ohh they can sink a battle ship!!!! well maybe if you set the battleship to 100 so it hardly ever fires and within the range of the gun(6000 meters). if you set the battleship any way out of that line it will simply blow up the coastal gun without it firing back at all.. realistick?? hell no!!!

And thinking on how many missions where flown against the coastal installations like sub pens and coastal artillery its a bit odd they arent representiv ingame. but again i can just guess it has to do with the game originally being a inland war sim.
