After patch 4.09 install game does not start at all [solved]
#1

Salute all,

Yesterday I tried to reinstall IL-2 on an older PC to setup some coop action with my gaming computer.
I installed Il-2 1946 from DVD together with the patch 4.08 and started the game. Everything was working fine. So I proceeded with the installation of patch 4.09 and the skinpack.
When I clicked the link on the desktop to check if everything is allright nothing happenend! Not even the loading screen appeared.
I tried again and monitored the il2fb.exe in Task Manager: the process disappeared after a few seconds... :???:

Has anybody encountered this before? I did a quick search here but found nothing alike.
Any help would be very appriciated...

cheers

A friend of mine with whom I fly on-line every now and then also had the same problem. We tried to figure it out but nothing seemed to work.

So I am eagerly looking out for a solution as well.

Are you certain you installed the Client 4.09m patch, and not the Server patch by mistake?

Otherwise, running IL2-setup and selecting something on the video tab that closely matches your hardware might get it running.

are you sure you patched up to 4.08m right? i had that problem a few times trying to go from 4.07m to 4.09m because i hadn't done something right with installing 4.08. everything works fine now though. hope you get it sorted!

I had the very same problem a few days ago.

Adonis at battle-fields posted the solution and it worked for me.

He wrote as follows

"Your problem are two dll's that get overwritten on the 409 patch, they're called mg_snd.dll and mg_snd_sse.dll. Back them up from a 408 install and just shove them back in after applying the 409 patch. The new ones don't like older sound cards."

I did this and it worked!

Hope it works for you.

Many thanks to all of you for your suggestions!!!

I made a clean installation from DVD and then continued with the 4.08 patch from the DVD on a Windows XP SP3 machine.
The 4.09 patch has been succesfully applied to my gaming computer, so I assume I got the right one.

But the solution suggested by Iremember sounds very good to me. Currently I

Great! glad it sorted it for you too!

I cant take the credit though, Adonis is the one who gave me the advice.

Maybe if an admin reads this, they could put the advice in sticky or whatever in some section so that paople who have the same issue can find the answer easily? Smile

Happy flying Blomsky! 8)
