They couldn't get their cooling system to work with the hub blocking off the radial engine like that.

Yes, cooling was an issue in the 190 for a long time, even after it entered service. I think it also had problems with exhaust fumes leaking into the cockpit early on IIRC. Thank god they found out a regular cowling was just as aerodynamic, because that ducted spinner was absolutely hideous!

this is true...i think after a few months of being in service they rerouted the exhaust and moved the oil cooler to a different location and that fixed the overheating problems. what i remember from my JG26 book.

I like to see the most famous aircraft and what they looked like in their testing phases.
They eventually took a troblesome aircraft and made it one of the most famous aircraft of all time.

Me too. It's interesting how some change significantly due to different engines or total redesigns, and some planes require only minimal changes to enter service.
