Wasn't there some talk about a modded C-47 from the Pacific in WWII being used as a strafer plane? I don't know the validity of this claim, but I figure it would be interesting to have a version that better fits the selected time frame.

If anyone can find actual data, rather than heresay about W.W.II gunships I'd be happy to make one. From what I've read, the USA didn't make a "gunship" until 1964. There are also rumors that the French made a gunship in W.W.II but I've seen no photos or actual data for that one either.

The Israelis modified a C-46 with a 20mm in the door in 1949 but it was never used on the mission for which it was intended.

Although that is certainly an AC-47 on the cover, the WWII gunships referred to in this book are the B-25/A-20 strafer modifications of Pappy Gunn. In fact, the detail on the background of side-firing gunships in this book deeply undermines the WWII C-47 gunship claim. Always good to read a source before posting it!

Now I will say that is one very interesting book and I'm glad you led me to it!
