Help with 6DOF in HSFX
#1

Hey guys. Finally got around to installing HSFX.

Gotta say...wow. I can't believe I've been going all this time without it. Man. Just amazing.

Anyway, a major reason for me getting it was that it included the 6DOF mod as well. Now, I can see it there, in the Generic Mod Enabler, and I've got a few questions as I can't seem to make it work.

1) When I "install" the mod through the GME, I get:
"il2fb.exe" has already been altered by the "Hsfx history mod" mod.

Does that mean that I don't need to install it? That they don't work together? Or should I just ignore the message? When I ignored the message and started them up in conjunction everything loaded fine, but my TrackIR went a little wonky in-game and when I switched to external view it looked like a big part of the fuselage just wasn't there for some reason.

2) If I install JUST the 6DOF mod the game won't fully load. It hangs at 95% on startup.

3) Assuming anyone can help me out on all that stuff, are there any settings I need to change or enable in the TrackIR profile or within the game itself to make all this work?

Help would be MUCH MUCH MUCHLY appreciated. HSFX is outstanding, and the 6DOF isn't crucial to enjoy it, but man it would be nice to have.

I have problems getting 6DOF to work too. When I drag it over it in GME I get "6dof" is already installed in historical mod" something like that? So i end up not dragging it over. In game, normal views work fine but not 6dof, no response at all from the other 3dof..

SO i exit the game and install 6dof anyway through GME and LOL and behold, still no 6dof??

Can anyone point out to me how exactly to get 6dof to work and what are the exact installation procedures.

I also see lots of mods in GME. Do I install everyone of them?

Activate the 6DOF AFTER you activate the Hsfx History Mod, and then it should work. (ignore the warnings)
If you do it the other way around, the Hsfx Mod will disable the 6DOF.

Thanks for the help.

It's weird, I thought I had done that. But I took away all the mods, then put them back one by one, the last one being 6DOF. And it worked.

If someone out there is having the same problem as me and comes upon this forum post, go to your mod manager, take away everything, then put back what you want with 6DOF going last. Then, in-game, make sure gunsight view is off to make it work.

I had to go into my TrackIR settings and up the sensitivity of the X, Y, Z axes because I didn't want to have to physically move my body to the end of my desk to make certain in-game movements. I also, when I'm flying the 109 for example, center my TrackIR a little to the left so I'm not constantly leaning to my right to look in the sights.

Man, with this and HSFX working it's a whole new game. I'm officially back into IL-2 Sturmovik.

I have a question. Does HSFX contain all the other mods within it? Like, if you install HSFX, do you need to install the perfect textures, good effects, wind/prop mod, etc?

No, I don't think Hsfx History Mod includes any of the other options you see in JSGME.
Activating only History Mod sets you up with the Mod set for the way 242Squadron likes to fly in their SEOW campaigns. That's my understanding of it.

I have HSFX 4.1.1 and Track IR 4 as weel but I don't get all the degrees of freedom. I can't zoom in and back in the cockpit and that's a shame. Do you have this problem too?

Try the advice that has already been offered. Also check you are not in gunsight mode (toggle Shift+F1), which disables the X, Y, Z axes.

I don't know what other advice to give you other than what I said.

I was getting frustrated, too. I thought I had installed everything correctly, all the axes were enabled in TrackIR, but still no 6DOF. I didn't adjust anything other than uninstall, through the mod manager, all the mods, then re-installed them STARTING with HSFX, then the other mods I wanted, then LASTLY the 6DOF one. I went into the game, and when gunsight mode is ON, I get only pitch and yaw axes. When it's off, I get roll, x, y, z, and it all works absolutely perfectly.

You have gotten just about all the good advice there is ... but just one more, okay ?

In game, push your star key * on the num pad to bring up the menu in the following picture and make sure your settings are the same.

That's one of the things I learned when I couldn't "lean in forward" to look at my gauges nor get any other of the 4 degrees.

Hope this helps.

The star key is it a HSFX mod or simply a feature of Trackir v5?

It's a feature of the 6DoF mod.

Also when using TrackIr you need to go into the profile that you are using for your game and make sure that:

Under the motion tab or the TrackIr utility ( I use Version 4.1 Build 37 because all version 5.x have button assignment issues that have yet to be fixed)

1: Z axis is checked (z translation is is created by moving forward and backward)

2: Vector is selected

3: True View is selected

Hope this helps.

Thanks for pointing out the * for the 6DOF MOD. Been using this mod since its inception and never saw a reference to this pop up menu. I turned off the rear zooming so now I see better to the rear hemisphere without the feeling my face is pushed up against the seat.

Never thought about that but on second thought you're right. It does feel like my face is looking directly into the seat in back

I'll give it a try.

Thanks
