I really liked the plane when I flew it in the old PS2 game "secret weapons over normandy". Of course, this can't be compared to IL-2, but I have a weakness for the early-war birds...it would be very nice to have it in game.

I don't know if where ever see this Sad

This is what I remember from what I have picked up over the years but don't take it as gospel truth;

It was in the works for PF but because of the Northrop Grumman copyright lawsuit it never came out, then when the mods started to take off some one came forward and said they had the model and where going to work on it or give it to some one to work on, but nothing happened. Then there was a rumour that Team Daidalos had the TBD model and where working on it, but since then Team Daidalos have said in one of there reply's on the C1 forums that they will not be adding any aircraft, ships or vehicles from the Pacific Theater of Operations because of the copyright problems (or from the British & German sides at the beginning of the war, so they don't compete with BOB). So unless some else has that model or is working on a new one then I don't think it will see the light Cry

Edit:-

Found the thread about the TBD Devastator by 777 Studios:- viewtopic.php?t=8390&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=tbd+devastator&start=0

I've always wanted this plane in-game, with the yellow wings. Smile

Devastator was produced by Douglas, not Grumman....

I see something strange in this problem with "copyrights". Exist many games about pacific war... Battlestation pacific, Steel Monsters. And they don't have any problems with copyrights.

I know what you mean, I don't under stand it but it was Grumman who got upset and to be safe from any other lawsuits (I think) they stopped work on any PTO content for IL2. Any way some one on here must know the hole story and can clear this up about USA aircraft, ships & vehicles ect... and copyright's?

This discusses it

And it sounds like what is happening is the US companies, like model makers thumb their noses at the defense companies while apparently foreign companies feel more pressure to pay.

Who has the Devastator model now? Assuming it is complete (all LODs, damage model, etc) then it shouldn't be too hard to get it in game, all that would be needed would be classfiles and an FM.

Weird that Douglas plane is the bone of contention (Douglas was bought by Boeing) when the Grumman Wildcat, Hellcat and Avenger are in the game. :-?

I guess Northrop-Grumman attitude makes a little more sense to me that Wiki was mentioning that NG supplies most of the military's flight simulators so computer aircraft so I am sure Boeing, Lockheed and Northrop-Grumman have merry little court battles over who owns what rights for the simulators. Maybe they see Olage and crew as a threat or something.

Raises the whole question as to what do they plan to do with Korea for SOW.

Anyway, wasn't the a mesh made of the Devastator for Il-2 and released to the public for modding?
