I was just wondering what map you would suggest i should use while building a b-17 long range bombing mission, at the moment i use the beta version of canon's BoB map(i know the full verison is out but i have had problems running it) and the berlin map already in the game. i am really looking for a map like the one checkyersix made for night bombing missions with the RAF but with the lights on

Cannon's Channel Map (Final Version), B29 Alley Map from Saipan to Japan, Burma, and Slovakia are all really good maps to make bombing missions for.
Though I fly through the valley of death, I will fear no evil.....
For I am the meanest SOB in the valley!
As a general guide it takes about 100km minimum (10 grids) to get to high altitude in a bomber (Above 21,000ft). Then you want at least 30km from your IP to target to get good and stabilized on the bomb run. This is a general guideline depending on how high you want to bomb from and how adept you are at level bombing.
So, look at the various maps and define a target, then figure out what base would be appropriate to takeoff from that will give you plenty of room far enough behind the lines to get to altitude. Some maps you may have to circle around or take a zigzag course before heading out to the IP.
Just my two cents for what it's worth.
i just downloaded the italy, africa, and greece map by red fox. and it is perfect for long range bombing missions in the B-24 but i'm not sure the b-17 was used here
It isn't exactly "long range" but it sure is fun and its a "target rich environment." I love the Ardougne map.
You can use "the Slot". B-17F started some mission from Guadalcanal to Kahili, Ballale or even Buka airfield held by the Japanese in the northern area of the Salomons.
Escort, if needed, could be P-38G/H or P-40M.
Opponents should be either A6M2/3.
B17's were stationed in North Africa (bombing of Pantelleria) and later Italy were many were stationed around the Foggia area.
