can anybody point me in the right direction to exactly how i can make my own map?

Oh I'm sorry I mean I would liketo make a map as in make my own terrain, like my own canyon map for some very fun canyon dogfighting, I know there is already a grand canyon out but for some reason it won't find the file or maybe I'm looking in the wrong spot but still I would also like to make my own maps also.

Painting your own terrain in grey values, which is what will be necessary if you want to make a fictional map, is not the easiest thing to do unless you will be happy with relatively simple landscapes. It will be very hard and time consuming to put in by hand all the grey values necessary to create a believable landscape.
Far better to roam around the world with say Google earth or Google Maps and then find a landscape somewhere that fits what you are looking for. Or perhaps make a compilation landscape, with features from 2 or more different locations.
Then follow the tutorial, make the Microdem Dems for the map and see how it turns out. You can make small adjustments afterwards. And you can always change the outward appearance of landscapes by changing texture sets.
If for instance you wish to have canyons for dogfighting, then just zoom around in Africa for instance or around the foothills of any of the Asian mountain chains. You'll find more remarkable kinds of landscapes than you ever imagined possible.

Why thank you sirs but I just want to make something not real for me that way I have some fun, i've flown all the maps in the up2.0 and haven't really found what I'm looking for.. There is a fellow squad mate that is so good at dogfighting that my squad has done ten against one and he shot down over half of us before finally getting shot down him self, so I'm wanting to make a map that's dog fightable, but you have to be on your game about watching where your going so you don't crash into the huge rocks or the sudden cliff that came out of no where or just some crash mess that your flying through. Is it possible to just make a messy canyon or land scape?
Ps I am not going for real life just my own thing ya know what I mean?

Of course you can make your own landscape. I'd say it's too much work to be worth the while, but that's just my opinion. In any case you can make totally fictional maps from scratch. No reason why not, if you want to invest the time.
I would suggest you first look at some of the map_h.tga files first, from other maps so that you can get an idea how it works with the 256 RGB gray values and corresponding height.
You'll need a good graphics editor and a more than passing knowledge of what all the different kinds of paint/spray/draw/smooth etc. tools can do, but once you feel confident it's time to go knock yourself out ... and have fun.

Wow I think you have been the best help since I first got on this site thankyou, so how do ihet started do I go to that link up there or what should I do. Because the link up there kind looked like it was mainly for the DMV and less for map making? Where do you say I should start my good sir?

You should first start with downloading, printing and following the map builders tutorial. You can download it here:

Works for me. Try it again. This link has the tutorial that describes mp making. Essential if you wish to make a map.

If the link won't work for you, then do a search for 'tutorial map making' or a variation. Or else look up the posts by 'kevinp' and look for a link to tutorial there.
