[Speculative Request] Pilot's Dream Aircraft
#1

If anybody modding feels like doing something spectacular, new, or completely out-of-the-ordinary...
I was wondering if anybody would like to take up the challange of modding one of these aircraft into the sim. Sure they don't really fit into a World War II Sim, but just to fly these on the IL-2 game engine, even without any enemies or such, would be a thrill. Of course I'm only asking, and seeing that requests for things like the G3M, B-26, and B-36 go unanswered I can't really expect anyone to pick it up, so, I'm just asking. A also hope to start a conversation on such amazing aircraft on these, even if the request doesn't get taken up. Hence the tag: "Speculative Request".

But; think of this before totally throwing away the idea: What would add more variety (which is the very core purpose of modding a game), another one-seater fighter, like a variant of the 109', another twin-engine bomber, very similar again to the A-20, or one of these amazing aircraft which can fly in the stratosphere upwards of Mach 3 on cruise, which, even at an altitude with 1/1000th air pressure at sea level, the aerodynamic friction heats the surface to 650*F? And, at the same time, can drop a multi-megaton nuclear bomb?

At the very least, instead of just completely trashing the idea and flaming without even reading, even if not as an IL-2 request, at least read about this amazing aircraft.

The XB-70:

Crew: 4 (prototype had crew of 2, full production would include navigator and bombadier.)
Length: 185 ft 10 in (56.6 m)
Wingspan: 105 ft 0 in (32 m)
Height: 30 ft 9 in (9.4 m)
Wing area: 6,296 ft

Sorry, no super sonic aircraft.

You can reach speeds of over Mach 1 If you like... All you gotta do is turn vulnerability off. Smile

Is there a mod to get red of it?

1st, Mach, kilometer wise, speeds are variable with altitude.

2nd, Me 262 HG only does around 1000km/h air speed no matter what the altitude, but true speed will vary with altitude.

3rd, yes you can go above Mach 1 in new slot planes like Mig 15 and F86 Saber, but no, you can't go faster than Mach 1 in IL2 original planes.

P/O W. 'Moggy' Cattermole Wrote:The argument "they won't work" refers more to the avionics and flight computers more modern aircraft generally use. That said, we seem to be marching forward, so who knows?

Supersonic flight is possible with modded aircraft.

As for the WWI, WWII, or Korean Era aircraft, I think it's up to the modders what they make. I'm just hoping in the offset chance that some modder will decide he/she wants to do something different and new, see this and go: "That's a really neat plane" and mod it. Probably won't happen though :-? . Very nice aircraft, though.

Sheesh, I just realized the very top picture looks like it's straight out of a Sci-Fi novel... Heck, the entire plane looks like it. Ignoring whether it's going to be modded in or not you've got to admit a mach 3 strato-bomber is a heckava plane...

... and while were at maybe add a Lambourghini Diablo to moving vehicles?

.. but seriously modding LOMAC makes more sense for this type of AC. I beleive it is available in MSFS.

The XB-70 is a fantastic aircraft, but it doesn't belong in IL-2. Too new. Too shiny. Too awesome!

It'll certainly make the Luftwaffe sweat on raids over Berlin in 1960 odd. Heck... This war is dragging on...

if we have an XB-70 we must have an F-104 to crash into it. Tongue

(youll get it if u know a little about the airplane)

You mean like this?

Notice how the F-104 bursts into flames and is destroyed, while the Xb-70 just loss rudder and some wing damage. Apparently you can hit an xb-70 and mach 3 and it'll survive. Big Grin (at least until it goes into a death spiral, that is... Seriously though, with engines like that, couldn't you just turn on all the engines on one side to get out of that?)
As for Lomac, doesn't even start in Win7, I'll have to do more searching to see if anyone has found out how to get it to work.

Now to quote myself...:
Quote:If anyone does by any chance consider adding this aircraft, I would be thrilled to do the model. I have years of modelling experience for various mods to different games.
This includes Battlefield 2, Homeworld 2, Warcraft III, and Silent Hunter IV. From Missile turrets, countless spaceships, the Tu-22M and others, etc, etc.
If I did the model, would anybody pick up the programming end of it?

As for the Ohka, How do you get that to go that fast? Dives from 10km don't work, and it's impossible to go any higher. The only plane that could achieve mach 3, if it could do it w/out exploding, would be the me-163 diving from 25 km +
(Off-note BTW: I'm technically an astronaut for how high i've flown in that thing (80.3 km). Once you hit 50km, it's a ballistic arc, you can't menuver, so that's where it gets tricky...)
