Right just a quick post for any wannabe modellers out there Big Grin

So you wanna get into modelling aircrafts do you :?:

Well.....

Then heres a little starter help to get your wheels rolling.

Well firstly you have prolly seen many modellers using programs such as 3DSMAX, Softimage/XSI, to Zbrush or Maya and Lightwave right? Well as you may have noticed these programs cost an arm and a leg Confusedhock: and so forth... so we can trash these programs and use something better.....

Yep this program is 100% FREE! and even outperforms programs such as 3DSMAX in certain areas. It comes with all the high end features such as: SubSurfing, 3D renderer, Its own game engine! oh the joy as the list goes on and on and on and on.. ok I think you get the point 8).

Right so thats the 3D Program sorted without shelling out 1000 quid Confusedhock:

Whats next....?

Yep.... your gonna want a good renderer to show off your lovely work once you get good so once again throw out programs such as MentalRay and Turtle Render@ and bring forth...

Yep its amazing what you can find on the internet and this baby is sure gonna make you proud Smile

Once again a high end 3d renderer that matches what you can buy for 40-300 to even 900 quid, this program will render your work in stunny almost real life images Confusedhock: and what does it cost I hear you ask? well nothing... yup 100% sunshine nothing Smile

Well that concludes what I recommend you should use to start modelling planes for IL2 or any game for that matter and it doesnt end there... use it for animation or whatever your heart desires.

So now whats next...? TUTORIALS!!! hehe.

Go to the link above download the .pdf and read through the tutorial which teaches you how to build aircraft in blender. (Can be used as a 1st mini project)

I hope to be making 3D Models in the future and Blender I believe is more for making small fun games like Mario but in 3D. My brother used it when he wanted to make his own game but the Coding got very confusing for him so he gave up. Now he just plays other people games lol,of course...

Any tutorials on Moddeling for IL-2 would be nice aswell. Not everyone knows how...

All well and fine, but one thing you forgot to look at,
There is No IL2 exporter for Blender 3D, I have Blender as
Well and it is nice, but no IL2 data exporter, you could make
A 3ds from Blender then inport it into G-max which is 3D max
But free then export the IL2 data from G-max as there is a
Exporter for IL2 data for G-max but then at that point you
May as well just use G-max, but you cant get a 3ds out of G-max.

1st) In answer to the first reply, no blender isnt used for small games and has and is used for very advanced animations and is also a very advanced program for 3D modelling. Yes the interface is slightly confusing but you get used to it after a while.

2nd) Thats a good point mate but im sure there is a work-around. Remember this is free and as a whole is a good starter for wannabes to learn how to model.

And here is a tutorial on modelling aircraft in blender (high polly), can be used as both a mini 1st project and a tutorial.

You can make a 3ds from Blender then inport it into G-max
Which is 3D max but free, there is a exporter for IL2 data for G-max.

I have noticed that the GMax interface if easier to use for me because I started modeling with 3DsMax...

No problem, the only thing to bear in mind is that when he talks about bevelling edges and stuff like that in XSI so they smooth properly, you don't need to worry about that, that's just for high-poly work.
