Prevyet Comrades!!!

Im new to this forum, however I recently fell in head over heals love with IL-2,

I bought the Direct2Drive version of the game, and have tried downloading numerious Patches (They all failed miserably), so maby your guys pathes will work for me.

Anyway, I started playing with complex engine manament, I have a wonderful Saitek AV8R Joystick, that has two sliders, so, I assaing one for the Throttle and the other for Prop Pitch. Now I know my basic aviation, but I was just wondering if sombody could give me some hints to maximize performance, Especially on the I-16, that annoying plane sure likes to have its engine cut out at the most inconvienent places. Also while I know my Aviation Basics, im having trouble figuring out how to use the Multi Level Superchargers on planes, and the purpose of having this option, ive been messing around with it in the HE-111 and the I-16, and was wondering if there is anything that I need to know as I progress into more Complicated Fighter planes.

Second, I was wondering if anybody could help me with some of my level bombing expirences. Now I know that the way it worked especially for American planes was, that there was an autopilot and the Bombedier made adjusments to the autopilot to place the bombs where they needed to be. Unfourtunatly, for me, the program does not work that way, if anybody could give me any insight into how to effectivly level bomb, (The tuturial was dissapointing at best) I would be very grateful.

Another thing that is irking me is that there appears to be no way to set my two throttle levers to different engines, it would be nice to be able to independantly control my engines using my two throttle levers, especially in the B-25 and HE-111. and if there is a way to assiagn left and right control to the levers the TB-3.

Im having trouble loading some campaigns the two that have failed for me so far are the Leningrad Fighter campain for the Soviets, and the Bomber Campaing for the American Air Force.

I know this is a long list of requests, but I have tried to fix all of these problems, and or research them on my own to no avail.

I'll try to avoid details - there are many detailed articles on prop pitch and what it does - basically, each engine has an optimum performance range, depending on the RPM (rotations per minute) setting. That you control with prop pitch. I don't know if the D2D version of Il-2 comes with a manual, but even if it doesn't, check on the Internet (Google) for the best settings for each plane.

Generally, (keep in mind this isn't an accurate generalization, some planes vary) you'll want to combat at 100% RPM/Prop pitch. The blade "chews" easier through the air and you have more rotations. When diving, it's a good idea to slightly lower the setting, to avoid over-revving and damaging the entire (there's a maximum limit of RPM an engine can manage).

When cruising, most fighter run best at around 70-75% prop pitch when taking into account fuel consumption, attainable flight speed, temperature etc. Always climb at maximum rpm/prop pitch, though, even when not in combat!

If you want to consume less fuel, lower the throttle and set back prop pitch to between 50-65% (depending on the plane) - usually you'll achieve the designated "economy" mode for the given type with these settings.


As for mixture and supercharger - you'll need them as you climb. Each plane has an optimum altitude of operation, and a best supercharger stage for that altitude (most planes have 2-staged superchargers). For example, on the Soviet fighters, the M-105 engine needs to switch to 2nd stage between 2000-2500m; the M-82 between 2500-3000m. Fuel mixture, you'll need to this it (say, 60% fuel to air) as you go higher in altitude - though most engines seem to cut out after lowering more than 50%, and you'll only need such settings for very high altitudes.

This is a fault of Il-2 FM, IMHO, but if you want to achieve a more real performance, fly in combat at around 95% throttle setting and 100% prop-pitch - this way you'll be bound within the limits of what most planes on the frontline were capable of. 110%/WEP setting should be used only in extreme cases and for a few minutes during the entire flight - Il-2 is far too easy on engine damage, esp. on AI planes.


With the upcoming patch 4.10, you'll be able to assign a throttle lever to each engine independently, but unless you have more levers, you won't be able to control prop-pitch/RPM. And you need that to cruise with bombers and stabilize them before bombing. Unless you have the hardware, I advise you to stick to single engined planes until you master them. Bombers are generally easier to fly, but far harder to master and in combat, if you don't have enough peripherals (pedals, throttle etc.).

I also have the Direct2Drive version. Contrary to what some people will tell you, this patch is needed. You can trust this because I needed it and I could not get IL-2 patches to function correctly until the digital download patch was applied.

Formula: Direct2Drive digital download 4.08 + digital download patch (at the link above) + any other patches in the correct order



Also, you should study my help post ( I hope that you can translate well from English ). Though the information focuses on the handling of the Unified Installer download, you can use much of the techniques for any download of IL-2. I love the I-16! This tricky little aeroplane must have the throttle increased and decreased in a smooth and steady movement. If you change the throttle too quickly, then the engine will not adapt fast enough and the engine will stop. This is because of a carburetor.

Superchargers vary from airplane to airplane. Until you climb to at least several thousand meters, you need do nothing. After a few thousand meters, then you activate the next Stage Supercharger. After thousands more, then you activate then next Stage Supercharger, if one more is available. This varies among airplanes. The function for supercharger is in your Controls settings, of course. You assign a key or keys to it. The best thing to do is just to practice with a particular airplane because of so much variation from type to type.

With level bombing, you must assign keys to various bombing functions, found in the Controls section. There are many topics at different websites that cover the details. Assigning a key for Auto-level pilot is crucial, among other settings.

If you have a physical throttle set, then the software that comes with it will help you to make the connection between IL-2 and the throttle. Another way is to go to Controls in IL-2 and click the throttle command line to activate the box. After the box appears which allows your input, then you change the throttle lever and it should apply the setting for you.

We have many excellent campaigns created by AAA members. Some are Russian Front Campaigns. I highly recommend these.

Я люблю я-16! Этот коварный мало самолет должен иметь дроссельной заслонки выросли а сократились в гладкой и постоянное движение. Если вы изменяете дроссельной заслонки слишком быстро, остановит их двигателя не будет достаточно быстро адаптироваться и двигателя. Это, в связи с карбюратора.

Нагнетатели варьируются от самолета на самолет. До тех пор, пока вы подниметесь на по крайней мере несколько тысяч метров, вы должны делать ничего. После нескольких тысяч метров затем вы активировать следующий этап нагнетатель. После тысяч больше, то вы активировать затем следующий этап нагнетатель, если более доступен. При наличии физического дроссельной установлен, то программное обеспечение, что происходит с ним поможет вам сделать связь между IL-2 и дроссельной заслонки. Другим способом является идти к элементам управления в IL-2 и нажать дросселирования командной строки для активации поле. После поле появляется, что позволяет ваш вклад, а затем изменить рычаг дросселя, и его следует применять параметр для вас.

У нас есть много отлично кампаний, созданные членами AAA. Некоторые из них российских фронта кампании. Я настоятельно рекомендую это.

One of my favourite things to do in school is write my notes in English but using Cyrillic or Greek, so others cannot copy off of my paper. :twisted:

Ha ha, I used to do the same exact thing, only it was because for some reason the Cyrillic Alphabet was easier for my to write with.

Of course it screwed me when I played boggle though, because when a V is upsidedown I automatically view it as being an L.
