Well I did all of the steps so far but when I try to enter the IP address in my address bar it says (internet explorer cannot display webpage) What do I do?

Start...Run...cmd...

and enter ipconfig into command window.

Shouldn't matter about router make or model, as long as you have correct IP of the router.
Where are you getting this IP address from...it should be in the manual or documentation with the router.

Some routers can be fussy about admin access, and require wired connection on port 1, so you could try that if you haven't already.

Maybe your software firewall/antivirus is blocking LAN traffic.

I had the same problem too. It turned out I just had a crap router. I returned it and bought another more expensive one and then it worked...

Use an ethernet cable, plug it into the first port on the back of the router, and your ethernet port (you may already be doing this)

ipconfig/all is good, router IP should be the Default Gateway/DHCP Server/DNS Server on the list...
something like 192.168.2.1, is that what you're getting?

Old School method: turn the router over an look at the label on the bottom...IP should be there.

Try this: http://whatismyip.com/ This is the IP address of your router regardless of what ipconfig says is your gateway.

EDIT: Just looked at the documentation on your "router". The Arris box you have doesn't support online configuration. Its closer in functionality to a cable modem than it is to a full fledged router. It is only able to provide DHCP (which gives you your IP address) and two VOIP phone lines and thats it.

I would expect it to port forward everything to your PC just as a "vanilla" cable modem would. If not, you might want to get a conventional DOCSIS 2.0 or 3.0 cable modem and a dedicated router behind that. Cable modems from newegg can be had for $30-$40.

That will give public IP address, MM. Rall is after the private IP of the router, i.e. the router setup page, which will be 192.168.something.something.

If the intent is to host, (only reason to forward a port) then why not try it before spending money?
See if someone can connect to your server. Maybe the modem is all you need.

I have tried to host, the people always get time out massage, I was told I have to forward port to fix that.
