C-47 Gunship
#1

Hey guys, to all who devoloped HSFX, thank you, its an awsome mod pack.

But I got to thinking while messing around in the c 47, wouldnt it be cool if since we already have 50's aircraft, if we had the c-47 Gunship?

I dont know what it would take to do somthing like that, I know that the crosshairs were simple, I think the first crosshair on the first c-47 gunship was penciled on the window but thats just what my grandpa told me.

Anyway, if there is some way that I can do it myself then I will but I have no clue how to mod this game.

You know I was thinking because he said he was having problems with the ordinance not being strong enough to destroy tanks, that perhaps he could fudge it a little bit, use bigger shells.

I don't have the math done yet, but im sure that there is a corralation between this is how much damage a 20 mm shell does compared to this many 7.62 mm bullets,

Im pretty sure that you could adjust the type of ammo used, Im wondering though, because I know that the guns were aimable if he is planing to use the bomsight controls to move the guns.

I have no idea even where to start when it comes to these things, so, Im just guessing at this point.

Anyway, looking at the game engine it appears as if it would take an unlimited number of 7.62 mm hits, to damage a tank, where as anything 80 mm, plus easily kills it, so ill do the math if you want me to and feed you the answers, but I don't know, if I could just mod myself a gunship at will.

Can the rate of fire upgrade to match the Minigun? This gunship would be nice plane to have some fun! Big Grin

It looks like even if you did increase the rate of fire to match a minigun, the game engine wouldnt allow it to destroy tanks, which, as anybody who has even been close to a minigun, or knows sombody who has been close to one knows, could destroy a tank.

Thats why maby increasing the shell size to the minimum shell that the game sees as being fatal to a tank, adjusting the rate of fire, so that its not too devestating, and possibly changing to ammo load so that the time that the Minigun ammo lasted on continous fire, to match the length of time that new ammo lasts.

It looks like you can create almost any plane using this engine! as long as you don't go past Mach I that is. If I ever figure out how to mod, Im so making an AC-130 Spectre, My grandfather Col. Pappy Gallagher, comanded those in Vietnam, untill they got moved from Tactical Air Command, to Stategic Air Command I think, then he got thrown into the pentagon, untill he retired.

Just to let you know I had to upgrade the ammo to nearly .50cal size even with historical rate of fire. I'm pretty sure the problem was with the distance at which you would shoot with a gunship and the ammo effectiveness drops of dramatically at 1000meters/yards or so. If you drop down to 1500 feet you can do a lot more damage to trucks but if there is AAA you get pretty shot up that close.

Historically the early gunships were anti personnel weapons and only a few trucks were actually claimed destroyed. Since we can't mow down running rabbits, and we only really have light skin trucks and landing craft/boats to shoot I had to up the ammo weight. Two AC-47's with full ammo load can almost sink a fishing boat. You can leave it smoking pretty good. I'll tell you though, after a full load mission you get kind of dizzy after flying around in circles so much. Big Grin
