IL-2 Guide for Computers, Benchmarking, Optimizing, Tweaking

Fireskull Wrote:Unproven at this time, it is possible that an earlier version of the GTX 260 would have done just fine on your motherboard, but yours might not be an ideal compatibility.

Indeed, this is my nightmare.

I upgraded to directX 10 yesterday and I downloaded and installed driver 196.21 (from 197.44) but I didn't notice any change. (there is a slight difference when I am in directX from 9c to 10, but is not relevant with my OpenGL problems). I 've tried numerous times changes in settings with PhysX on and off, but is always the same problem.

The most detailed description of my motherboard that I can give is in the previous page where I have uploaded the JPEGs from SANDRA, I 'll be grateful if you can provide me an e-mail so I can post them to you. (I assume that you have problems reading them).

One last question, do you think that an upgrade from XP to W 7 can solve the problem?

Thanks man

Hi mates!

Marginal question:

Did you have changed the GPU and stop or did you have formatted and reinstalled?

I'm asking this because when sometimes ago I have upgraded mine I have a lot of trouble and I must format and reinstall to make all working well!

You can have a similar issue!

cheers

Never had serious problems before from 2006 until now. I suppose it was time to. Fireskull helped me a lot understanding my system and how to optimize it. I think I should buy a brand new copy of W 7 , format and re-install it. I don't see any other solution. But it's a bit of a pain because other than openGL, my system works better than ever.

(...Questa ca**ata mi ha fatto sentire male, lo ammetto)

Ciao!

Immagina io quando ho dovuto formattare tutto senza volerlo fare!

Meno male che avevo fatto il backup appena prima di fare l'upgrade!

Good day,

Walter_Solito has good points.

Windows 7 has its own advantages and I would never say no to an upgrade to it. It is an excellent system and the best from Microsoft to this time. From XP to Win7 is no significant advantage in the running of IL-2. The big advantage might be in getting a 64-bit Windows 7 instead of 32-bit. People say that this allows another 1GB of system RAM, but I have read no conclusive proof of this. The 64-bit seems to be quicker and more reliable to some people. The disavantage is that some Programs are only available in 32-bit.

Having two Operating Systems in the same computer is possible by installing one into a new disk partition. This way you could test the effect of IL-2 in both the two Operating Systems and compare the results. Two Operating Systems in the same computer will be sharing resources ( system RAM perhaps?? ), but it might reveal a difference despite this. Of course, they run one at a time.

Reformat after a new graphics card might be needed, but I simply do not know. I have never read about that, as far as I remember, so I will search for information on that soon.

Dear Fireskull!

I apologize for the delay in my reply to you great suggestion!

I have set a great configuration and NVidia settings that give me a lot of detail and quality without too much FPS losses!

As I can (I mainly use my netpc/netbook to be active on internet or forum and use my main PC only for game so I don't have IL2 ready at hands) I'll send you my conf.ini and the GPU settings!

I have also noticed that on desert map the forest settings should be set at 2 because the 3 value generate random trees on desert while on the others map a forest 3 give a great impression!!!!

I have also read the tread from Avala about the monitor colour management but at the moment , by setting my monitor on it's default 'MOVIE' value settings , I'm satisfied of it's colour environment!

cheers

Please do, I heard from other people (outside forums) that this might do.

I 'll be happy if I can try them too. I have nothing to lose now. GTS 250 & GTX 260 are quite similar in many ways, so, who knows.

Great news! Did you achieve this success by using the information in my topic? You called my information "a great suggestion", so I am looking forward to seeing your conf.ini and GPU configuration for the sake of FANATIC MODDER.

I highly recommend recording all your great settings in order to preserve them for the future. Making a screen capture of both your conf.ini and your GPU Control Panel settings will allow you to conveniently and easily return to them.

The answer about reformatting is in the below post.

NO is generally the answer. This is usually not needed after a new graphics card. Old graphics drivers must by uninstalled and new driver installed.

An exception about reformatting might be if the owner has not only installed a new graphics card but has also installed other major hardware.

Always do a restart after any major changes to a computer.

My reliable graphics Control Panel settings and conf.ini configuration are complete. The are included in my tech topic on Page 3.

Thank you for the tips, to all of you. I tried your settings fireskull, I am having the problem with blocks instead of letters in menus. Reverting my drivers from 10.3 is not worth the cost to me at the moment as I play a lot of other games that take advantage of newer drivers. I am really dissapointed in Il2 engine as it does not take advantage of SLI, etc. Oleg, if you are reading this... Tebje nuzhno set' na zhopu i ispravit' etu huevuju igru, yob tvoju mat'.

I found the problem: It was installed in my system the ASUS Enhanced Display Driver. I don't remember actually install it: It should have been installed already when I took the brand new "box". I uninstalled it and never look back. I suspect that is a bugger for directX applications too, I 'll post an update.

I want to thank all people in AAA & SAS forums, as well as two friends outside forums, for their invaluable help. By listening all these days the "it might be this one or the other" I got gradually sure of what it was NOT. I have now all the time to optimize my system (the GTX 260 settings are fairly low now) BUT I should say that there is now a very noticable difference, the IL-2 is running ultra-ultra-smooth with highest settings. (a dream to fly a high alt mission with "perfect" landscape at last.)

Magnifico!

Sono contentissimo per te!

Buon volo!!!
