Old Computer better than new one?
#1

My specs: Desktop Computer
Win2k SP4 32bit
Athlon XP 2500+ (1024 MB RAM)
Nvidia GeForce 7800 GS (512 MB)
Direct X 9.0c
My friends specs: Laptop (Samsung)
Win 7 64bit
Intel Pentium Dual Core ~ 2.10 GHz (4096 MB RAM)
Nvidia GTX 470 (1778 MB)- I'm not sure if this is the right card but I still know the exact amount of memory:-?
Direct X 11

Even though his specs are (a lot) better than mine he can NOT set Perfect Landscape and has got no AA and no AF.
I have Perfect Landscape, AA x8, AF x16 and realistic water (4). Our FPS rate is the same.
I told him it's because he's got a laptop but he didn't believe me. Sad
How can this be??? :???:

Firstly, 64bit Win 7 uses a lot more resources than Win200k 32-bit.

Second, I seriously doubt he has a GTX 470 on a laptop... at least a laptop with a ~2.10ghz Pentium Dual. That's a monstrous, very power hungry and very hot GPU stuck into a laptop, coupled with a very weak CPU. And Il-2 is CPU heavy...

I thought so that he's got a diff. card...
BUT: My friend has a brother who's got a similar laptop. That ones got the same CPU (~2,10 GHz) but a better graphics card (ATI Radeon 5570-NOT sure againSad [2248 MB RAM] He can set Perfect Landscape :???:

Sometimes vista is extremely slow in games ( I tend to say Vista has periods as it mysterically is fine for three weeks and suddendly slows down for a week, easter egg?).
I had FPS 5 for a week but then I went online one day and my FPS was 60...
It doesn't matter much if you have desktop computer or laptop.
Check the heat of the parts every now and then with SpeedFan to be sure it's not the problem causer.

My two cents worth. My HP 2-p4 extreme chips/ 4gig ram leaves 3.25 for use. xp 32bit sp3. video ATI mobility Radeon 9000/9100 gp family clock speed rated at 3.6. Using a cryo cooling system and still out runs and out works these new ones. this lap top is Six years old

both computers are fine for this game imho

if you cant set Perfect landscape ingame you need to open the file called conf.ini located in the root of the game
folder and scroll down to the [Render_OpenGL] section and set the parameter "HardwareShaders=x" to 1

I'm using these settings with a 9800GT they should work for any nvidia card:

Quote:[Render_OpenGL]
TexQual=3
TexMipFilter=3
TexCompress=0
TexFlags.UseDither=0
TexFlags.UseAlpha=0
TexFlags.UseIndex=0
TexFlags.PolygonStipple=0
TexFlags.UseClampedSprites=0
TexFlags.DrawLandByTriangles=1
TexFlags.UseVertexArrays=1
TexFlags.DisableAPIExtensions=0
TexFlags.ARBMultitextureExt=1
TexFlags.TexEnvCombineExt=1
TexFlags.SecondaryColorExt=1
TexFlags.VertexArrayExt=1
TexFlags.ClipHintExt=1
TexFlags.UsePaletteExt=1
TexFlags.TexAnisotropicExt=1
TexFlags.TexCompressARBExt=0

TexFlags.TexEnvCombine4NV=1
TexFlags.TexEnvCombineDot3=1
TexFlags.DepthClampNV=1
TexFlags.SeparateSpecular=1
TexFlags.TextureShaderNV=1

HardwareShaders=1

Shadows=2
Specular=2
SpecularLight=2
DiffuseLight=2
DynamicalLights=1
MeshDetail=2
VisibilityDistance=3

Sky=2
Forest=3
LandShading=3
LandDetails=2

LandGeom=3
TexLarge=1
TexLandQual=3
TexLandLarge=1

VideoSetupId=17
Water=3
Effects=1
ForceShaders1x=0

to set AA and AF go to the nvidia control panel (also check for propher nvidia driver version, update if neccesary) and adjust things there, theres no ingame option for AA/AF

Cheers
